Hows The Qantas Livery Doing?

Hello All,

I was just wondering how the Qantas livery is doing.

Haven't seen a new one since the picture of the 763.

The new livery is now on a 717 and also a Dash 8-400

I think they said it was being done as a progressive rollout, so they won't necessarily change it too quickly. I was in Sydney a few weeks ago and they've updated all their advertisements in the terminal to the new logo, though.
I also managed to fly VH-OGD on my way down and the livery looks much better in person! Definitely an improvement.

Hopefully we'll see more planes painted as the A380s come..

Not trying to be a smart ass, just asking. I guess for regular travelers, the changes are not so evident.

Actually, I think I was the only person at the gate who even seemed to realise it was any different. To all the other people, I think they saw a red tail and didn't think much of it.. So you're definitely right about that!

They don't seem to be in too much of a hurry to re-spray their aircraft. I think that they realised some time ago that the A380 was going to pose significant problems for the existing livery. They probably wanted to launch the new livery as early as possible so that people wouldn't think that the whalejet forced them into a corner.

its still stuck on so all seems to be ok. ive noticed alot of thier advertising still has the old logo, including the latest australian avaiation.

imagine the cost of it all, aircraft, uniforms, hangers, ground equipment, terminals, advertising and even onboard on safety cards and inflight entertainment, all need changing. its a huge expense for so little change

Actually that's what I've been wondering all along. Why bother to change when the changes are so minimal that they are nearly indiscernible?

It seems to be a case of change the livery to adjust to the no paint areas on the new aircraft or have a kangaroo with amputated legs.

The good thing is with it being a relatively minor update in the sense that they didn't change the color of the whole plane, just the font and tail, so they can go a little slower on the repaint if need be.

Aren´t it just stickers which are new or does QF indeed paint titles AND kangeroo?

I like the new Kangaroo...

It looks like its more "in flight" may i say, and also looks "competitive" or aggresive like it is going to pounce on its competitors!!!

Johan, what did you think of the new cabins?? Comments have been very favourably by passengers with one Frequent Flyer asking me if this was a new aircraft...so it looks like its working!

I agree.. it looks heaps edgier and more competitive. With regards to the cabin on OGD, I didn't really like it.. The grey colour makes the whole plane look really boring. But it does seem new and fresh. I like the look of the red on the 747s though.

When the FF said it looked new, was that on the 747 or the 767?

Somehow the livery looks great. It's slightly refreshing, but still using the common QF elements. Especially the modified font is much better now, as it adds some more movement and velocity. Not a great change, but still, it is well done and keeps the comopanies image.

I also like the revised engine covers and I'm looking forward to see the first B747 with this new livery.

Yes, I like it too.
The new kangaroo gives a feeling of dynamism

Also, another change is the gold trim (wich I never liked) from the mid 80's livery.

Absolutely correct. The kangaroo would have had its legs cut off at the horizontal stabilizer, something that QANTAS didn't want to do on the large rear of the A380....and something a number of the other aircraft in the fleet suffer from...

You can see how the leg is cut off in the older version. The other slight revision is the deletion of the gold band:
