That's indeed a very considerable number of A320!

I don't know how many they now have, but add the full 75 too that and they are set to become a 100+ A320 operator.

Congratulations to Airbus and WizzAir.

40 + 50 and 25 more on option... That's a pretty impressive medium haul fleet when all will be delivered!

A very nice order and one that gives the A32X a healthy lead in terms of orders vs the 737.

With such excellent sales progress for the A32X family, I continue to believe that Airbus will indeed announce a further increase in production for the A32X family, one that exceeds 40 units currently envisioned.

Would definitely make sense to do so...

I very much expect the Chinese FAL to be expanded beyond what it is planned to produce now, so it will eventually become Airbus main FAL for ALL Asian A320 orders.

The A320 already is the commercial airliner with the highest sustained production rate EVER and as things look now, it isn't even enough to cope with demand, 20 years after its EIS!

If one is playing the orders game, Where does this order sit with Airbus's tally for the year? What about in comparison to Boeing?

How many more planes can the world's skies and airports take? I wonder if someone is thinking of buying up a patch of the Sahara to store planes or am I getting a tad dramatic?

It's not that I don't believe in growth with Low Cost's - but this order-magnitude is somewhat out of scope for the actual size of the company.
Indigo partners have invested 20M € in Wizz-fine - but here we are talking about a multi billion € order!

It is official now! The press release is just out...

Wizz Air, the largest low fare-low cost airline based in Central and Eastern Europe, announced today that it had signed a contract with Airbus for an additional order of 50 firm A320 aircraft and 25 options increasing its total orders up to 107 aircraft. The new order follows Wizz Air's existing A320 order, addresses its capacity requirements until 2014 and is the largest Airbus fleet order recorded in the CEE region. The firm aircraft deliveries will position Wizz Air to become one of the preeminent airlines in the region over the next decade.

In line with Wizz Air’s existing fleet, the new A320 aircraft come with enhanced cabin features and single-class configuration seating 180 passengers in comfortable leather seats.

The delivery stream of existing and new orders will result in the Wizz Air fleet having an average age of less than 3 years for the next 10 years promoting high operational efficiency and technical reliability, increased passenger comfort, environmental efficiency and one the lowest seat mile cost in the region.

“Wizz Air has demonstrated its ability for sustainable growth in a competitive environment, where low cost leadership is fundamental to market share growth and to remaining competitive. The A320 is a proven contributor to our low cost base and continues to deliver low seat mile costs, high operational reliability and customer satisfaction using an environmentally friendly platform. The new aircraft order will put Wizz Air in the league of the largest fleet operators in the region. By 2016 Wizz Air would operate a fleet of over 100 A320 aircraft.” said József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air.

"We are very proud to take part in the tremendous growth of Wizz Air in the Central and Eastern Europe region” said Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers, John Leahy. “The new order strongly underpins Wizz Air's aspirations to expand. The A320 Family is clearly the leading aircraft in its category, and this milestone order really endorses the superiority of our product” he added.

A320 family is selling like "hot bread" !!!!!

Not without a reason of course. Beats its reviles in all comparisons even with the Euro/Dollar at this rate!!!

Congrats Wizz Air and Airbus.

Interesting, that Mr. Váradi favoured Boeing far more than Airbus not a long time ago, when he was the MA CEO. Of course it was a totally different situation, because MA was owned by the Hungarian Government in that time, and they always operated as a traditional airline, but it still makes me smile.

On the other hand congratulations for Wizz and Airbus!

Is Wizzair only ordering A320?

I'm surprised that they don't want any A319s or A321s, ordering some larger /smaller derivatives would give them greater flexibility on their seasonal routes.
