Rumor has it that AA if making a substantial announcement tomorrow, Any takers? I bet it has something to do with ORD and China.

About 2-3 months ago I heard that AA was planning Moscow and Nice from multiple, reliable sources. I'm not holding my breathe, but maybe...or it could also be a Brazil and/or Paraguay announcement.

Do not dream about new planes (787's) just yet...especially w/the labor uncertainty AA will face soon...dark gray clouds are on AA's horizon. They would have end up better by declaring bankruptcy back in 2003...DL, NW, CO are all expanding. AA has to remain cautious due to its high costs compared to other US majors...what a shame!

I guess if it's bad news then the market won't be able panic if they do it after close of trading (except maybe a little after hours trading). Then everyone has the weekend to think and hopefully calm down before the markets open on Monday.

It will probably be something exciting like pre-paying some debt, strengthening the balance sheet, announcing a fare-sale on latin american destinations, and new local cuisine choices in first class for flights departing Arkansas Wink

In all seriousness, maybe an announcement about spinoff of AAdvantage program? I know there has been a lot of pressure lately from investors.

Okay, not to rain on anyone's JFK parade, but exactly how much "expansion" can JFK take before its gridlock makes people wish they were going through an uncongested airport? You know, like Chicago O'Hare?

Delta, JetBlue, and now American...I know the market's there, but how many more flights can the NYC area handle?

Great point. Most if not all schedule-related announcements are made early in the week (AA's JFK-MXP/BCN route announcements were made on a Monday) so that various business news media outlets have the rest of the working week to circulate/publish the news...If something comes out on a Friday, most people will forget about it by the time Monday rolls around as business news is generally non-existent over the weekend....

While its a crazy idea with the contract negotations open, but is it possible that AA would bite the bullet and order 787s anyway?

Could be A300 replacement news. I believe some of their leases are coming due in a few years and it is time to plan the replacement. I know that there is active discussion within AA going on about this.

You try flying a plane when your over worked and underpaid. I'd gladly pay 5 dollars for the pilots; after all AMR is to greedy to cut management salaries so the real workers such as pilots and others can get the salaries they are entitled to as opposed to crap. Either way, from a financial point of view im hoping its negative... i just shorted a good amount of stocks on AMR... Big grin

Didn't all airlines have to announce their summer flight schedules out of JFK by some point around now because JFK was upgraded to a busier airport rating... not quite slot controlled, but almost? Maybe it's their summer 08 expansion plans?

Isn't there a deadline for all carriers flying out of JFK to announce their summer '08 schedules by sometime in mid-October? Some deadline set up by the FAA because JFK has an upgraded congestion status - not quite ORD or LGA slot-controlled status, but more than before?? Maybe they are announcing their summer schedules and expansion out of JFK?

A friend at AA just told me that it will be new route announcement to Tungston ( not sure of spelling) in the UK. I was hoping that it would have been the A300 replacement news.

I did not make that comment . That was Ikramerica. I think there is something going on with the a.net site ( not the posters) in terms of problems posting, anyone else noticed this.

And any really good news for AA, Airbus or Boeing would want to be on Monday to give the stocks a boost straight away as opposed to be getting lost amongst other news that is freasher.

Are you really saying it was a shame that tens of thousands of people did not have massive pay cuts imposed on them and retirements and health care taken *poof* with the stroke of a pen? Classy.

He said something about the new union president and was going to show me some stuff when he gets back Sunday.

Isn't AA repaying loans, ($545 mil.), at record pace? Could have something to do with it.

It seems a little early for AA to announce quarterly results. And if I remember correctly, AA usually annonces results in the morning with a conference call in the early or mid afternoon.

I wouldn't say that AA won't announce a 787 order, but logic says that AA won't do that until they are much closer to an agreement with the pilots. Considering the hand grenades that the APA president was lobbing this week, the two sides aren't close.

Could it have something to do with a collective bargaining agreement with one of the unions? That's possible, too, but the mechanics decided to fully reopen the contract, rather than negotiate an extension. So I can't see what else it could be.

About the only things I can think of that would make any kind of sense are new routes or changes to in-flight service.

Better yet, they've decided that with the intractable union position, they're going to close up shop, liquidate the assets and return all the money left over to the creditors and shareholders.

(I cant tell which one would be more ridiculous! LOL!)

Neither is management... certainly not over worked and definately overpaid, but lets not go there... anyways id guess the announcement either has something to do with financials, or a new route. They already talked about new seats.

I hope not. I would prefer it to be Continental Airlines operating that route. They have a much better product, especially in Business Class. AA don't even have a Business Class product in their 757's, well not on the Boston-Manchester route they don't. Its just all Economy with a few wider seats up front which one can purchase at the airport for a little extra cash!

I would pay it if with this money they will improve their service, and of course "NO DELAYS".................and pay more money to their pilots.

I work for an Oil company in Hamburg, and our company have an office in Maracaibo, Venezuela. So I am forced to fly in AA every time my office send me there. I fly through MIA and then AA to MAR. The last four times I went to MAR, AA flight was delay for more than 4 hours, and this have happened all 4 this year. Last year wasn't that worse.

And guess what, Chavez hate USA, but AA is the only airline flying to MAR. So they do whatever they want. I use that Airline as my last option, they are worst than a ULCC.
