I'm unable to get the site to open up and I'm in Sao Paulo. Thanks for posting the image! Not sure if I like it yet but I didn't like DLs new livery at first either. I did like the "Brasil" added to the former. I thought it was classy.

VARIG's server can't handle the traffic. What a nightmare! I guess it will stay like this until tomorrow, since the ad that will be aired later tonight on Jornal Nacional will make more people try to have a look.

The roll-on of the first plane (a 737-800 with winglets) with new livery took place today at GIG. Later on some friends that attend the presentation will release some pictures from this plane.

So there is nothing orange like GOL. They kept the blue, changed the font, ... really like the new 3D compass.. very sleak I think.. can't wait to see the aircraft.

I finally was able to open the website, but it was still the old one... I guess their server is really having problems to handle all this traffic..

Looks like GOL have decided that a corporate look is the way to go. I like the tail even though the picture is small, I am please they haven't ditched the compass entirely, I would have prefered to see a more billboard Varig on the side theres a lot of white and replacing the word Brasil with that small flag is well kinda weak, like sampa737 I liked the scripty gold Brasil of the previous livrey, why didn't they do it in orange. I will hold my final jugement on the livery until some pics are posted, but the checkin looks good and I have a feeling GOL are going to pull the recovery off !

Just a small preview:

The thing is that it is being said that that is not the finished scheme. Actually, only one side of the aircraft was done for the official presentation, since it was done in a hurry. Look how the same aircraft looked like yesterday:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v444/kadudidario/PR-VBE.jpg
Thanks to Coronado from Contato Radar for the picture of PR-VBE.

Rumour has it that not only the livery is not finished on this 738, but every new aircraft will bare the compass on another part of the tail.

Uhm...

To be 100% Honest...

I DON'T LIKE IT !

Looks cheap.

I know they are going for something simple, but that is WAY too simple. I wish they would have put a logo on the side of the aircraft or something. Even G3 scheme looks hotter !

Big Bummer !!!

I think that a bigger "Varig" on the fuselage as well as painted engines, in blue with the fading lines (as the tail) would make it 100% better, and wouldn't cost that much either!

It would look nice for a start-up and it is not as bad as I was expecting, but it comes nowhere near the glorious VARIG of the old days... it is a sad day for aviation and one more glorious airline gone down the drain  Sad R.I.P. good old Varig and welcome new days.

While I still think the plane looks way too euro-white, the tail is truely something to admire. The addition of a light-grey belly and engines covers would solve the problem from where I'm standing.

The important thing is that we will see Varig planes flying in the skyes again!

Cheers,

Another cheap white fusulage. And if I didn't know any better, I'd think the logo on the tail was supposed to be a flower or something, not a compass rose.

Not the worst around, but definitively the old one was much better.

Just another airline that enlarged the logo enough for not letting it fit in the tail, just like Pluna, AIr India, Nortwest, Delta, United, etc etc etc

Well, it could have been worse but it lacks class in leu of looking trendy.
And varig was and should have been positioned for the future to be about class.
Now it looks like a generic lcc.

It is as I said before, its a business mistake to change before the brand was delivering positive change.

Who did the design?

I like the logo. Unlike 90% of a.net, I accept change.... because it's sometimes good  Wink  duck

All it needs is some of that dark blue for an underbelly then it would be better, or an extension of the fading lines onto the fuselage to give it a more continuous look.

To be honest, I'd have preferred the classic, distinctive scheme they had on the 80s, with the cheatline, the flying lady on the side, the flag of Brazila and the huge V A R I G letters. That's the Varig I grew with and that I learned to love.

OK, they could have updated it here and there, and put the new logo and whatnot, but that way the colors would work as a way to say "the ole' good Varig you knew is back".  Smile If I'm not wrong, things started to go down to them precisely when they changed their color scheme to the all-white fuselage with the blue tail and belly.

It's a shame cheatlines are so demodè these days.

Sadly almost every latin airline now is white with a dark blue tail and is making aircraft watching/photography EXTREMELY boring..

I guess Latin America has no idea what looks cool or modern in the airline industry anymore.

If the fuselage had some color it wouldn't look so horrible IMO At first glance it looked like Skyservice's now old scheme.

Wow, Varig isn't pronounced anything like I thought it was. (I always thought the VAR part was pronounced like the E in "very", and the IG ended with the G sound. I guess from the video it's pronounced as "VAR-IGI"?)

As for the livery, it's more of that "let's put negative space to work on the tail", like JAL and DL. Bleh.

Nevertheless, nice to see Varig's making a comeback.  thumbsup

I remember seeing the big VARIG letters on the fuselage on my way in. I flew RG several times from JFK, MIA, EZE and BOG. Getting on board a RG at JFK in a cold February night felt like the whole country of Brazil was reaching out its warm arms for us. Well, probably too warm... Good sleep was always necessary in order to survive the immigration area at GRU at 6:00 am, 40 degrees Celsius, 100% relative humidity with 800 more people that had just arrived from Europe. I wonder if they've done renovations so the customs experience at GRU it's a bit more pleasant nowadays.

Will RG ever be a Star Alliance airline again once they beef up their international schedule?

Just the fact all 3 airlines have to have the same livery and that could be confusing... should prove my point. If I saw a plane that looked that Avianca but instead reads VIP or Ocean Air I'd be wondering what the heck did Avianca change name or something, what's going ? Maybe there's some kind of practical reason but marketing wise it's a poor idea.

They were insecure so they had to contract an agency abroad, FutureBrand. I have to admit that scheme looks so much better than so many boring, ugly latin liveries around. The red color definitely stands out.but there's too much white on the rear and that condor is too abstract.

Today a 4 page newspaper ad was published on O Globo. Here you can see how there are going to paint the compass rose in different positions on the tail. The sad part of the ad is realizing that perhaps nothing is going to be added to the fuselage after all.
