As an Aussie - and given that it is a European plane - I found it interesting, and quite inspiring, that neither the take off nor the landing involved Europe or the US.

Yes, you beat me to it. The site is causing conniptions again, so I don't know if anyone has mentioned the 4 full page spread ad in the SMH this morning. And that plane is so big, they could only get two of the four engines into the centre picture!

Quite an event, and the Aus media do seem to have realised it.

Pity about the weather, esp as we have all that cloud for, so far, only about 5 mills of rain in most centres. Less cloud and more rain you weather gods.

Ed, too to to!!!

Bit surprised by this though.....

Just saw this pic and thought it was cute ::::

Interesting pic that last one. The PTVs of the first row seem to be located high on the bulkhead in front.

It doesn't look that convenient to look at, and I don't like the idea of everybody behind me watching what I'm watching...

Apart from that, it looks great in there! Beautiful bird, really impressive.

When you go to singaporeair.com and check flight status it doesn't give updated status on SQ380. Anyone know what the deal is? Pretty exciting moment in aviation history.

The flight on singaporeair is actually SQ221, not SQ380.

It comes up as SQ380, leaving on the 25th from Singapore. It then shows departure and arrival from SIN to SYD and then SYD to SIN.

It arrived 30 minutes early due to canceled fly-by.

It is scheduled to leave SYD in about 27 minutes. I'm surprised nobody is reporting on the second half of the trip.

Has interest in the A380 waned so much on a.net that people don't even care about the return leg? I want to see more pics!!!

The SQ website says it hasn't arrived SIN yet, only estimate for 0:08, but since it's 1:15 according to my world clock, I assume it's landed? Or is my world clock off by an hour?

Allow me to share a few pics of (and around) SQ380. Those of us who were at SYD were certainly treated to a little slice of aviation history.

My favourite photo of 9V-SKA as she sits at Gate 57 after arrival.
http://s44.photobucket.com/albums/f41/kitkat271/aviation/2007_10_Oct/sq380_9v-ska_4.jpg

It was a big day at SYD for all the spotters. More than 90 minutes before SQ380 was due to touch down there was a huge crowd by the fence at The Beach already! Here they watch as the former Queen of the Skies (the QF 747 VH-OJQ) taxis to the terminal after arriving from JNB as QF64.
http://s44.photobucket.com/albums/f41/kitkat271/aviation/2007_10_Oct/qf744_vh-ojq_3.jpg

"Airservices Australia welcomes you to Sydney, sir. Singapore 380, you're cleared to land." Within minutes 9V-SKA landed on 34L to a lot of cheers. The helicopter in the background belongs to local TV station Channel 7.
http://s44.photobucket.com/albums/f41/kitkat271/aviation/2007_10_Oct/sq380_9v-ska_1.jpg

What are you looking at?! Qantas must not be happy SQ chose SYD to be the first A380 port.
http://s44.photobucket.com/albums/f41/kitkat271/aviation/2007_10_Oct/qf763_sq380_syd1.jpg

And finally, a close-up of the front end of 9V-SKA. Check out the "A380 Capable" catering truck that lifts straight up to the top deck.

I was on the first flight from Singapore to Sydney. It was the most amazing experience and the A380 certainly lived up to expectations. It is such a quiet aircraft and very spacious (but maybe I felt that more because I got a whole row to myself since the people that were supposed to be next to me were no-shows).

I'm not going to write a trip report, but I thought I'll share a video I took of the landing at Sydney with you guys. Enjoy!
