AA/TAM End Of Partnership Countdown

Tue Oct 30, 2007 7:23 pm

In about two weeks (Nov 14), the AAdvantage partnership with TAM ends.

Who will be AA's new partner in Brazil? Any interline agreements in place?

My guess will be the new Varig. Any ideas?

I could only hope its Varig, it will personally suit me best!

But I haven't heard anything recently here that would suggest that will happen.

NO more TAM with AA since they are to STAR ALLIANCE. Lufthansa and SWISS will love this arrangement.

No, they have not.

They are not going to Star Alliance right now. In fact, in addition to a major deal with UA, they just launched, a few days ago, a major codeshare with the LAN Group.

Surely VG doesn't have the sort of network to be AA's partner in Brazil.

Could this mean that LAN are planning on moving in on Brazil??

Exactly Mark, and also they keep their agreement with AF.

They can't because of the bilateral. I'm been waiting forever for a CNF flight now. It's just a matter of time I guess, after SSA, REC, BSB. We'll just have to wait for the revisions or possible exemptions.

They will. Varig has potential and I see them growing rather quickly. Their recent "interest" in Airbus may accelerate some deliveries of Boeing to VG?

I thought I read or heard something about Delta and Gol?

Will TAM partner with anyone? Varig once partnered with Delta and then United. So, who is next?

Does Ocean Air partner with any US carriers?

I guess no one knows. TAM, as someone once said, is the "Garota de Programma" of the brazilian airlines. They'll partner up with anyone.

The brazilian civil aviation thing is a mess right now and almost solely speculative. No one knows what the heck is going on with these tie-ups and even if there was such an announcement, then you'll have to layer in the government regulatory agencies to think about it.

There is an effort from one Deputado here in Brazil calling for more flexible ownership regulations which would allow more foreign companies either owning more % or competing directly in this market.

LAN Brazil?

Sounds like they are the Alaska Airlines of South America.  Smile
