TG's current F suites do not look all that heavy, so they likely do not stress the upper deck like SQ's suites could.

I do like the all-premium upper deck idea. I believe EK will be doing the same, having the lounges for First and Business on the second level of the terminal.

The all premium upper deck makes sense, keep the rich folk away from the peasants! but seriously, put the high rollers up top away from the screaming kids in coach and give them better service, but wow that's a lot of business seats, shouldnt they add some first seats?

That adds up to exactly 500 seats.

Perhaps Thai's use of upperdeck for F and J is the most optimum configuration on A380.

Personally I like the idea of that setup. Even more so if you have a single upper deck air bridge and two lower decks. Also means at their home ports they can setup a nice lounge area in the upper level of the boarding area for those premium passengers and potentially provide more services there too ie food/drink, some tvs etc.

SQ's low seat count is due to the 1-2-1 business class configuration. TG will likely have 2-2-2 for the business class.

They often do that, everyone was shocked when they put 60 J in their 346 and then complained that they are not filling them up?

Yes, but on those airports that have single-level bridge (the majority, I should think), that means that the premium-fare passengers would be the last to leave. Or am I wrong, and airports expected to serve the A380 have already built dual-level Air bridges?

In such cases, most likely 1LL and 2LL will be used. FAs can block access to 1LL and force Economy passengers in the forward lower deck cabin to use 2LL. That way, 1LL can be used exclusively to unload the upper deck.

I find this to be an interesting statement. Isn't SQ more profitable than TG?

Also, i noticed that the SQ setup as all of the premium seating foward of the engines whereas some of TGs business class will be behind the engines, albeit higher up, but still behind.

Most airlines will have 2-2-2 Business Class upstairs on the A380. The only question is why would THAI not use the front lower level for its First Class or some Business seats. Thai or any A380 airline could put 30 Business seats in the front lower cabin very luxuriously given the huge width of the airplane. I can see the logic to keeping all the coach on the main deck but, not using the lower deck front cabin for the premuim space it is a a giant mistake.

Tell you what, I'd be annoyed as a Business class passenger if I had to trudge all the way down to the end of the plane to get to my seat (this on top of having to take the stairs).

LH has 72 Business Class seats in some of their A346s (with 263 Y and no F).

Are you sure they have actually deployed this configuration? From what I know, only the one with 66 biz seats is currently being used (plus the 3-class aircraft with 60).

But on their 744s, there are 80 business class seats, and previously, with the old business class, some had 99!
Exceptions confirm the rule.

But I have a feeling it will sell well. Seriously the doors in the middle of the aircraft are a sweet way to load. The concepts other a.netters have posted utilizing mid-aircraft doors on the lower lobe make a ton of sense. Loading through an upper door... would be best.

How long until more airports have bi-level gates? My estimation is that within 5 years a few dozen airports will add the multi-deck gates (other than the A380 hubs). The hubs will naturally go for 3 jetway gates.

This is a great idea if they can separate the boarding area, so that premium passengers are on a floor above, and board directly into the upper deck from there. Might be hard for Bangkok, but for the upcoming JXB and maybe even at the new terminal in DXB it could probably be done much easier.

Agree there - it's like the premium passengers are flying on a differant plane to the cheapskates down below!

I think THAI previously stated that they will develop a new seating for the A380s.

But, I also agree with their policy of not being so lavish etc. because that would keep the prices down and more people can afford it (like me). The prices that SQ and others are charging for their new flat bed seats is just really outrageous. I mean, I love their new suite and business class seats and all, and really wish that I could try one soon, but I think the product that THAI offers are a really good value for the airfare spent.
