Went and looked at the new Qantas seats in the heritage room upstairs down by gate 11 in Terminal 1 in Sydney.
The new economy seats looked nicer, seemed wider yet thinner (more leg room) but may have been an illusions.
The fully-flat SkyBed looked very narrow (but truly flat bed, so a nice improvement)
The new 1st suites were very nice. Not quite SQ but still nice and big. Good looking 17" LCD flat panel that you can swivel towards you.
They did not have the premium economy seats -- there was a display area marked for them but it was empty! Maybe afraid of competitors looking at them?
The domestic business class seats were literally the same exact seat with a new coloured fabric and in-flight power ports on them... why even bother touting them as new?
And spekaing of branding... I think the Qantas livery still worn by most of the aircraft in the inventory looks better than the new one. Such a small difference one would wonder why bother repainting the fleet to look 99% like it already does! Reminds me when DL used to repaint and rebrand every year... where is the payback?

The premium economy seats were on display when I went to have a look in September, so I'm not sure why they've removed them now.. It's a great little museum there! I've only been once but it was very impressive, and not many people there at all.
I'm actually a fan of the new livery after I saw OGD in person, I think it looks sleeker and more competitive

Thanks for the update QantasHeavy. I'm next due in SYD in DEC and look forward to visiting the Heritage Museum for the first time. That's a shame about the Y+ seats not being there - that is the new product I have a great lot of interest in - you are probably right about QF removing them due to competitors - that way they can limit them to only seeing photos online!
I have to disagree about the new livery - I absolutely love it. It's a big improvement and is very modern. The more I see it the more I hate that gold stripe on the old tail, so the removal of it in the new livery is wonderful.

I love everything about the refreshed livery but I respect that you still find the superceeded one much better. I'm with QantasAirways on this one - "it looks sleeker and more competitive".
I'd like to see more discussion about the new livery - what do people outside Australia think of it?

Yeah, respect fellas. To each his own. I like "Spirit of Australia" under the Qantas. I don't see that much difference to warrant repainting the fleet, but that's just me. I do think the poster looks better than the real thing too. It will grow on me. Just glad they did not add a big cheat line over the windows... I am not a retro fan.
I also think Qantas should paint the RR-powered 767 and 747 engine nacelles/housings white though... looks much better white with the QF logo on it. The 747-400ERs and 767-ERs (both have GE engines) with the white covers look really good.
Heritage museum is definitely worth your time! Enjoy your visit there. Plenty of neat things to see and it is very convenient (right in the terminal). Great views of the main runway with a panoramic viewing area, so set aside some extra time to watch the action if you can. I wish more airline would have their musuems at their hub in the terminal. AA has a good one but you have to go over to their HQ, which is outside the DFW grounds. That allows people not flying to stop in and visit (schools, etc.) but is hard for people in transit to view.
Nice thing with QF showcase is that it is past, present and future... + a great view of ops at SYD. Unfortunately the hours ar enot always good. Think it is open 9-5 Mon-Fri. Have seen many a dissapointed enthusiast go up to the door on a Saturday morning : (

I don't quite follow, aren't they white already?

NO the engine covers/cowlings/nacelles on all of the RR-powered 767s in the QF fleet are grey and all but one or two of the RR-powered 747s have grey covers (silver on the 747-300). Only the GE engines are painted white on 99% of 767s and 747s with QF.

Just to correct Qantas Heavy - the seats are on display at the Heritage Collection at T3 Domestic and not at T1.
The new seats, crockery, cutlery and service offerings look great ... roll on the refurbished B744 and A380 !

I like the "updated" livery, let's not call it an entirely new livery! But I love it; it looks very clean, I love to see the proud roo taking more space!
I love the new interior colors as well! Good to see the corporate color (red) being presented so proudly inside the cabin, they did a realy good job! QF is a great airline!

When the 747-438 was delivered the arrived with white engine cowls. It soon became apparent that the RR engine was prone to spiting oil all over itself leaving large orange streaks that quickly became dirty and turned grey. Consequently they were progressively painted grey to help mask the streaks.

I really like the new livery. I was at Brighton Le Sands a week or so ago and saw OGD approaching from the south. It's quite evident even from that distance that the livery is different. I was surprised at how noticeable the difference is.

I hope the new skybeds are on the LAX-SYD flights from early on. I would imagine they go on SYD-LHR first, but I'm going to be heading back to SYD next year, and would use miles for J tickets with the new beds. Last time I used miles for F seats, but if I can lie level flat in J, that's "good enough" for me. 
Of all the things to worry about... the Wookie has no pants.

Unfortunately the new Skybeds will not be on the 747-400s. They will only go on the A380s. The 747-400s will only be updated with new Premium Economy alongside with new carpet/seat covers for First/Economy.

Silver Service in Pemium Y with passenges using Business class toilets and inflight bars.
Also...Matesses are coming onboad or first class.
747-400 will NOT get new Skybed M-II...and first class is still getting looked at.

I found F pretty nice. Maybe they can work on a different "head shell" that provides more privacy, but otherwise it was enjoyable, especially in row 1.

That's excellent to know.
I have been told by QF that you can fly premium economy as a normal person from 1 April 2008. It's expected to go on sale later in the year or early next year, with the pricing due out soon.
