Why 3 Delta MD-88's At OKC Today?

Tue Nov 20, 2007 6:12 pm

I noticed this yesterday also. This is the schedule:

Delta 4544- 600a-858a; CRJ
Delta 458- 730a-1029a; MD88
Delta 4246- 1059a-107p; CR7
Delta 4556- 122p-425p; CRJ
Delta 9718- 433p-735p; MD88
Delta 4270- 532p-840p; CRJ
Delta 9720- 650p-949p; MD88

I realized that they had 9*** flight numbers. Any ideas?

Those are extra flights. Probably for the holidays. Seems like a lot though.

They are both about 60-70% full each. Maybe they should have added two CR9s.

Today's Delta 4270 was cancelled, so Flt. 9720 probably was full.

I researched, and I the aircraft that was supposed to take the people from ATL to OKC was cancelled, so the flight from ATL to OKC was cancelled. They probably just put the people on both of the flights on the MD88 that followed. Why waste jetfuel and crews.

ASA yesterday had flight 4806 ATL-SBN divert to FWA due to fog on SBN. The forecast did not show the wx to improve for at least two-three hours so the decision was made to cancel 4911 SBN-ATL and fly the aircraft FWA-ATL. The affected passengers were provided ground transportation from FWA to SBN.

Due to the diversion, there was a gap in a/c availability in the 2000-2300z timeframe and no spare a/c available to cover. It was necessary to cancel a round trip in that time period or else operate the at least one roundtrip flight with a three hour delay waiting for the diverted aircraft to return to ATL. The decision was made to cancel 4829/4270 ATL-OKC-ATL since there was ample passenger protection on the DL extra sections operating yesterday. Super80DFW had it mostly right.
