United does not have a crew base in Fargo. United mainline doesn't even fly to Fargo.

I do not know why Fargo was the airport they chose to stop in though and replace a crew member.

Maybe the pilot is from there and faked illness so he could be home for Thanksgiving...... ?!?!

What Happen To UAL 291 Tonight

Fri Nov 23, 2007 4:49 am

My dad is on UAL291 tonight and the flight made a stop in FAR. UAL website said the stop was for crew replacement. When did UAL start a crew base in FAR.

On flightaware.com, it shows UAL291 as diverted. I'm confused.  boggled

My guess is a fuel stop. The flight is an Airbus 319 going from IAD-SMF and I believe that is stretching it for the 319 in good weather. Considering their route of flight put them up against headwinds of up to 150kts, my guess is for fuel.

anyone from ua have any other information?

See http://flightaware.com/live/flight/U...1/history/20071122/2248Z/KIAD/KSMF

The sudden 90-degree turn into FAR fom the south doesn't suggest (to me) that there was anything planned behind the diversion. If they said it was to replace a crewmember (pilot? F/A?) that would suggest one of their existing ones was sufficiently ill that they couldn't perform their duties, hence the diversion. If I read the Flightaware data correctly, it looks like they were on the ground at FAR for about 90 minutes, and I'm guessing maybe they scrambled a replacement crewmember to the flight from their home in FAR, since many crewmembers live in such outlying places and commute to crew bases where they start (and end) their trips.

Sorry to take so long to get back to everyone. The FBI made it quite clear they didn't want anyone taking about this event.
We were so happy to see my dad especially after B747' report. My dad is very closed lipped but we could tell he was upset after the flight. Thank you everyone for your wonderful reporting now we can work on getting dad ready for the flight home.

Unless they make you sign a release of some sort, I dont see what the problem is...

Am I correct in this?

United Airlines passenger appears in federal court

FARGO (AP) — A man accused of charging the cockpit during a United Airlines flight and forcing an emergency landing here on Thanksgiving Day remains jailed after his initial court appearance.

A federal complaint charges Andrew James Smith, 25, Los Molinos, Calif., with interfering with the duties of a flight crew member. Smith was not asked to enter a plea in court Monday.
