Mon Nov 26, 2007 7:11 pm

Replacement for Fred Reid announced.

Looks like Carty managed to get one of his former lieutenants.

Virgin America Appoints C. David Cush as Chief Executive Officer

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Virgin America today announced that C. David Cush will become Chief Executive Officer of America's newest airline, effective Dec. 10, 2007. The former Senior Vice President of Global Sales at American Airlines, Cush will replace outgoing Chief Executive Officer Fred Reid, who was required to leave the company under the terms of the airline's certification by the Department of Transportation.

"We are pleased to announce David as Virgin America's new CEO," said Donald J. Carty Chairman of Virgin America's Board of Directors. "David's extensive industry experience, business acumen and creativity are the perfect attributes for leading the company as it continues to grow from a promising start-up to a major carrier.

In his role as Senior Vice President of Global Sales at American, Cush was responsible for all sales and distribution activities worldwide. Cush also has significant operating experience, having held the position as Vice President of American's St. Louis hub, where he was responsible for airport operations for more than 200 daily departures and over 7,000 employees. Prior to that, he was Vice President of International Planning and Global Alliances at American.

Over the course of his career, Cush has held key leadership roles overseeing all aspects of the airline business including finance, sales and marketing, customer service and operations. In addition to 20 years with American, Cush served as Chief Operating Officer of Aerolineas Argentinas, the national carrier of Argentina.

Executive management within the airline industry has to be one of the tightest "cliques" around.

Best of luck to him in SFO. What a change of pace from living in the DFW area. Hope he is ready for the sticker
shock of housing out there, compared to DFW.

Suppose you are not aware, however many senior executives do not necessarily reside where their companies are based.

A good part of a CEO position is outside the office anyhow participating in industry events, civic functions, lobbying, high level sales visits, financial forums etc, so its quite plausible Mr. Cush can easily reside anywhere he pleases and likely has annual travel and housing allowance part of his employment contract.

That's too bad... It will be hard to replace David Cush, he was good for American.

Congrats to VX and Cush. It's a loss for AA, but I'm sure they'll find a 'quality' person to replace him. Any leads?

Carty knows good talent. Cush is the man.

Yep, he's just about as good for VX as the iceberg to the Titanic.

DAVID CUSH!?!?!?!?!?!?
He's the same idiot that brought that horrible new business class seat to AA that everyone seems to not like. But I like him anyways. We'll see what he can do.
