Delta "Whereizit"

Fri Dec 07, 2007 11:03 pm

I took this picture, oh, I'm gonna say...around 1998. I of course remember where it was taken. Any of you recognize the spot?

Blink blink... focus... I do not see any mountains... sure looks like DFW to me... especially the MT LD carriers stored where we stored them in DFW... but it wouldn't be the first of last time I was proven wrong... But it sure reminds me of the very flat, hot landscape that is DFW...

I also see the mountains, starting just to the right of the first light pole. You can also see them to the right of the nose. I don't think it's DFW, but I don't know where it is.

I also see mountains in there. I would guess somewhere out West.

Agreed.

Look in between the light post behind the tail and the tree, there is a mountain, I think

Its not DFW...the ramp area is not different shades like shown in the picture. Also the blast fence wall lights are not white and never have been.

Those aren't the right light standards for DFW.

Even though the infrastructure looks like the old ONT, I just have this gut feeling its SNA for the simple fact that the "mountains" in the background sure don't look like the San Gabriel Mountains that I look at everyday. They just look way too small to be that. Looks more like the Portola Hills area in OC. Of course, I've been wrong many times before!  biggrin
Doin' just fine thanks...

Did DL ever send the 73S all the way out to ONT? I would tend to agree with either DFW or BNA only as the 73S was a regular visitor to both airports while it was still at DL...I don't think the 73S has been based out of SLC for many years...probably not since the WA merger...

To all those who replies ONT:

You are correct. The picture was taken from the old terminal, gate #2 area. The picture was taken in the afternoon, facing southeast. The hills that are (barely) visible are the Jurupa hills, so the view is facing more-or-less towards Mira Loma and Riverside. As such, yes, DL did, for most of the 90's route 73S equipment into there for some SLC flights.

A DL 737-200 at SNA? ANY -200 at SNA? I don't think so. Not since the days of Air California anyway. As I recall, DL did not begin receiving the -200's until right before the Western merger (roughly '85).

If you guys like this stuff, there is a DL pilot that takes pictures from the cockpit challenging the users of the Internet to guess the location. The pictures are called the "5 Star Sudoko" series:

Fair warning: It is really addictive.
