No, they actually did/do have plans to do that. I am not quite sure when tho, UA has a lot on their plate at the moment with refitting, repainting, and no extra aircraft to spare.

I know a little off topic, but does any one have the most current statistics on how many of each of the UA aircraft are painted in the new colors? Also, I haven't been paying too close attention on the whole interior refitting of the international fleet. Are the 767s, 777s, and 744s, the only aircraft that will get the refitting? Does anyone have any stats on how many of each of these planes have already been refitted? Can the interior refitting and exterior paint jobs be completed at the same time, or do the aircraft have to go to another location to do the other...?

Yes. To add to this, only the 3-cabin 763's and 777's will be refitted, the 2-cabin domestic 763's and 777's will not.

Only one 763 has been reconfigured, fleet# 6447 (N647UA). The second one is in the shop now getting the cabin reconfig......I'm not sure which fleet# it is though.

Anyone who is in Chicago can see a retro painted 722... it's not exactly airworthy, though a surprising amount still works.

It is a 721, isn't it? That's a really embarrassing mistake to make... I can't count how many times I've been to that exhibit.

It is and I remember pretty well seeing a video of its last landing at Meigs Field.

I would agree that it's not airworthy. I've seen better retro colors. If they really wanted to paint retro colors for UA, it might look good on 733 or 735s, but would look disgraceful on a International bound jet! Try to picture the 733 or 735, or actually even the 319 wouldn't look that bad with the retro colors. Possibility, no more.

I dont think you can even get a composite Airbus to shine like that. It gives Airforce one a run for its money on how clean it looks

The 727 is still the best looking mass-produced civil airliner in history.. Even hanging from a roof it looks fast and loud and all the things we jet heads love.
I don't care what you think of my opinion. It's my opinion, so have a nice day :)

Would they have been able to fly a 722 into Meigs for the ride to the MSI?

PLS DO IT UNITED!  pray  I'd love to see the colorful 1980s livery again on the 747s and friendship scheme on the 777s.

That looks beautiful, superb, gorgeous. Imagine that scheme on a 777 wow. Look at that shiny polished metal!!! I'm afraid you kiddos who find winglets on 737s amazing and plastic looking new airliners pretty have no idea what a real jet looks like  no

A319s are too ugly anyways, even the US Airways heritage schemes which are great, don't look right on that short stubby thing. Would've looked so much better on the 757s and 737s.

That's actually an interesting question. They stripped the 721 to fly it in to CGX (it was the largest aircraft ever to land at CGX), but they got in in without too much trouble. Obviously, a 722 would be more difficult.
