They just took orders of these 777s, if I recall. Yet its painted in white instead of the Mint Green colour they were introducing. Is there any reason for this?

I'm not sure they are white.. the mint green can be hard to see depending on the lighting.. it can look blue, green, white and all sorts of other shades.

I know their first 777 they took had the greenish tinge to it...

No.. they are still painting them that color, but I would not call it 'mint green'. I say more of a Sea Foam..... I've seen it up close and it's a very cool color and changes as you walk around the plane. It's a metalic paint that reflects light....

Agreed. The lighting is likely making the green look white.

AC's latest 77L here at PAE is in the "mint-green" hue.

I like the livery, I wasn't sure when I first saw it but now I think it looks great. I saw the livery at LHR a few weeks ago and as the aircraft taxied past the colours changed from green to white to blue and back to green, it looked really nice.

Chris, the owner of the picture of the snowtorm 77L called it iceberg blue!
Good name I guess!

I've seen the 767's in LHR as well, looks very good!

Actually now that you mention it, it does have visual properties similar to an iceberg (they shift colors as well depending on viewing angle and ambient light, and in a very simialr spectrum to that AC paint scheme).

Shall we henceforth refer to that color simply as 'Iceberg'?

What was wrong with the old dark turquoise and red tail and white fuselage? I thought that tail was the best in the sky.

The toothpaste livery is the worst scheme AC ever had, and the current fleet fits to it.

Tail was cool, the rest was derivative "eurowhite", and boring. Nobody else is "euro-iceberg" or "euro-Crest" (still vaguely eurowhite, but not), and the leaf is still there, which is cool.

I was one of the people that hated the minty-fresh color, but now i have to admit that the green looks good in groups. Theres enough green ones at YYZ now that they really look good lined up at the gates.

It's glacier blue. If anyone has ever been on a glacier and looked into a crevice you'll see that color. (don't get too close, as you will die if you fall in to those glacier cracks.)

Whenever I'm overseas and see an AC plane parked/taxi'ing in an airport I love it. It's a nice clean design and stands apart from the others. Sounds weird but makes me proud to be Canadian.

I was just about to get into that, it's a pearl/mica. Within the past 4 years, automotive refinishing manufacturers have accomplished true pearls that pop 3-4 colors depending in the highlights of sun, which is exactly what 'Glacier Blue Pearl' does. I know about 2 years ago there was a Chevy SUV, maybe the Equinox that had a pearl red and popped a dark blue on highlights.

I think not only the new livery is bad, but also the AC fleet is less "interesting" than 5 years ago.

For me the old red liveries fitted better to AC, to Canada, than this "glacier blue", which is the same colour as toothpaste.

Understandably, red and white are our national colours, but the glacier blue is also very representative to Canada, at least for some Canadians. When we see this colour, not only does it remind us of our northern parts but also the lakes nestled in the Rocky Mountains such as Lake Louise which have the same colour.

And btw, my toothpaste is white with orange Big grin

OK, understandable. The livery is of course a personal preference. I also think it could have been a bit more 'interesting', but it's not completely bland or unsuitable.

The fleet composition I would argue is much more 'interesting' these days. The DC-9, 732 and 146 aircraft were all good, but 190 and 777 aircraft are much more so, never mind the 787. I will miss the 333s though - there are few more aesthetically-pleasing planes in the sky. And I'm sure you won't find a person on this board that doesn't love the 744.
However, to the AC bean counters, the current fleet plan is of infinitely more interest than that of a few years ago.

You don't even need to see the lakes. Just fill your bathtub with glacial water and it takes that color!

I remember this from my vacation to Switzerland. The bath water was exactly this color. It was really wild. And the bath was so much more enjoyable than the limey aquafer water so many municipalities have.

The 333 are now going to be XM'd so they will be around for a while. Great aircraft and I always enjoy flying them. I would imagine they will be retired when some follow up orders for 787's are placed.

The old tail was a bit of a disaster. The red maple leaf disappeared into the dark green background except under the strongest light. As many have commented the new livery changes colour depending on conditions, and even when you change the angle you're viewing the plane at, which is unique (which is the whole point).

I also hated the "iceberg" colour when it first came out but it has really grown on me. It is truly distinctive. No other carrier that I know of has anything like it. You can now distinguish an Air Canada plane if you can't see the tail.

I do enjoy the frosted maple leaf colour scheme when seen in person. I think that when you compare it to what is flying around Europe these days that it is much nicer then an all white body with a painted tail. Oh that is what they had before and it sucked.  biggrin

Well, to most people, without the word "blue" they would think you are talking about white. Also, not all ice bergs come from glaciers so many lack the blue. Icebergs that are frozen from sea water and break off are white/grey, not blue at all.

Like the paint but hate the red color of the lettering and the maple leaf. It clashes with the seafoam/Crest toothpase/glacier/mint color.
