You'll never see another active fleet like that in the world.

4 x 727-100F/C
2 A319 ACJ
2 737-700
3 F27
1 A345

absolutely bizarre.

I've indeed seen this on Airlinerlist.

It's a new aircraft. As a hint, Airbus has delivered yesterday C/N 888 of the A330/340 production line.

It's good to see them getting an A340-500. I've been in one of their 737-700s and it is one of the nicest interiors of any 737 operator in a normal configuration. The business class seats have 50'' pitch with full leg rests and recline.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

BA787

They work for the petrol industry.
Their previous name was Sonangol
They have a sister airline in China , called China Sonangol.Apparently the A319CJ is operated in China.
They have also some biz jets such as Falcon 900EXs.

The MD11 is used on the Luanda-Houston leg , and i guess this new A345 will replace it , at the ending time of the World Aw lease.

Glad to see a new operator for this beautiful plane.

Great, was it a domestic flight? Any pictures, the Luanda-Benguela & Soyo routes spring to mind.

I couldnt agree more Ikramerica. This just makes me wonder what the operating and maintenence costs would look like to operate a diverse fleet such as this and others I have seen similar. The flight crew operating costs would be astronomical unless they are planning major expansion, which I would really doubt.

Is Luanda - Houston going nonstop then? Currently its flown via Malabo with the World Airways MD-11 IIRC.

It's not about diverse, it's more about such a small fleet with such a range in ages and technologies. From 40 year old 727-100s to one of the most modern, longest range planes in the world, and little else. ACJ and F27-050. Crazy man.

Nope, I just said that I had been on the plane. I got myself a tour of the plane while it was about to exit the factory. I'm sorry, but no cameras are allowed.

It is already nonstop using the World MD-11. The Malabo-Houston flight was a 1x weekly service that operated completely separate from the LAD-IAH flights. The Malabo flight was discontinued about 3 or 4 years ago.

But AFAIK this is essentially a charter flight. How will the aquisition of the A345 affect the operation? Will it still be "charter"?

If this aircraft is destined for the LAD-IAH route then I would not anticipate any change in status from the current World MD-11 flight. It will simply be Sonair operating their own aircraft instead of leasing one.

To FCKC ,

Are you really sure this A345 is a new aircraft ? sorry to insist , It is an excellent news , I do love A345s and am sad that so few are built . 4 engines are safer to fly such a long distance among water .

You can get the details here. http://www.worldairways.com/news/20050126.html World Airways is usually using an MD-11ER (N278WA) specially configured for that service, sometimes though, another MD-11 is used, just like in these two videos (N801DE).

The China Sonangol aircraft is C/N 917. Although I can't find a link in english, I've seen a short report that may suggest that it has been ordered back in February already, as the first Asian VIP A345.

I don't know about the configuration of the A345, but their short haul fleet is not business-class only. It has business and economy like most planes, but the business class on the 737s at least is a lot nicer than what most airlines offer.

So this appears to answer the question I asked in Reply 12. The order is already shown on the Airbus Orders and Deliveries spread sheet.

No, it is destined for China Sonagol but will be operated by Sonair. The only use for this aircraft has to be LAD-IAH. I wonder if it will operate nonstop now - methinks so.

Hey Drerx7,

I read a post by Melanie on houstonspotters.net that coincides with what you said. While I don't doubt you or her, I would like to see a link stating so. I would assume China Sonangol could also find other uses for the aircraft such as linking their base in Hong Kong to Luanda (or their other bases in Singapore and London). That being said, I hope you are both right as I would love to see their A345 at IAH.

Dennys

Yes i confirm it is a new built aircraft.
One of the latest A330/340 having rolling out is C/N 909 (A330 CA F-WWYG / B-6115).
C/N 917 has not yet rolling out.It will be registered F-WWTM.
Interesting , what definitive registration it will wear.
Probably will be VP-B.. (Bermuda) as all new built aircraft for Sonair and China Sonangol wear.
727s and Fokker 50 of Sonair are D2-... (Angola) registered.
