Fox News Vittert Courageously Boards Lynx Flt ;-)

Absolutely priceless. The much lampooned Leland Vittert of Fox News 31 in Denver got an invite to climb aboard the newly certified Q400 on a flight to SUX recently. His closing statement made me grin like an idiot watching him eat his own words from his previous reports:

Yes. I loved how it said "I couldn't have felt safer"

The plane is not nearly as bad as he made it out to be. Good thing he got on one and showed there is nothing to be afraid of

And I never thought I'd say this, but I raise my hat to the guy. It isn't often that a reporter eats crow.

Absolutely. The guy was certainly careless with his reporting the first two stories, but it's good to see that he had the courage to look the camera in the eye and say what he said.

Sioux City news also had an in-flight report with a follow up being aired and likely posted on the internet tonight:

I wonder if there was some sort of influence towards him saying "I couldn't have felt safer", but either way, pretty good report  Smile thanks for sharing

I heard he quite a high maintenance piece of work on the flight as well.

It looked like it hurt him to say he felt safe.

I am pretty sure it is L4, but how long until it is part of a.net?

Then again, I'm not sure someone who thought that a lack of an oxygen system implied a lack of safety can really be trusted to know what a safe feeling is.  Smile

Kudos to him for owning up, though.

Start a thread in "Site Related." I've already been bugging them about XE, SX, and VX (which should be "ExpressJet", "Skybus (USA)" and "Virgin America", respectively  Wink ).

I was wondering where Leland ran off too. He used to over-report the news in Orlando.

I watched that broadcast last night. It seems like he must have gotten his ass handed to him because of the first story. That's as close to an apology as you are going to get from the local media...

Are they still on track to have all 10 aircraft delivered in 2007? I can't wait to fly on one.

The interesting thing about the Channel 31 news clip is that the reporter makes no effort to explain why his previous report was wrong, he simply disclaims it. Good of him to admit the error of his ways, but a little information would have gone a long way.

So why is Lynx's call sign "Shasta"? Wouldn't "Long's" or "Evans" or "Pikes" be more appropriate?

They went back and forth with the FAA many times with their callsign, as the original Lynx was too close to Lakes. They would them provide five names and a few lists were rejected. In one list, which I have been told included South Park as a name, Shasta was on the list and approved. I am wondering if someone was drinking a shasta while looking at a Colorado map and just for fun put it on the list.

What the FAA looks for in approving a name I am not aware of however it would make logically sense not to be something close to another callsign, navigation aid or anything else normally used in the area. Thus Pikes would be out due to the southern departure, not sure about the other names.

That reporter is such a tool. He came from ABC affiliate, WFTV in Orlando. There is a video of some lady coming out her front door throwing a bucket of water on him when he was banging on her front door down here....priceless. He was always coming on the air making a report of something like the local school having a lockdown for some sort of threat look like the end of humanity. What an idiot.

[sarcasm on] I wasn't ever going to fly on an F9 Q400 after seeing Vittert's previous reports; however after seeing this latest report, I will board any Q400 with confidence. [sarcasm off]

I am planning on purchasing a new car soon, I wonder if I should have Vittert test drive it first to make sure it's safe  Yeah sure

Here's a link to last night's report from the Sioux City NBC affiliate. A look at Lynx ops at Sux from check-in to departure to arrival in DEN. I can actually stomach watching this reporter.

Make sure the oxygen system is installed and operating, and check the inflatable exit slide on the left door. Call Ralph Nader if there are any problems.

Glad to see this service finally off the ground; here's hoping the wheels work.

Not unless they start selling the Q400 in Los Angeles area Wal-Mart and Target stores, find them coated with lead paint and manufactured in sweat shops in China (who's prison workers also made the components to the landing gear.)

This non-story is so corny one doesn't know where to start. The reporter almost makes it sound like he's defying death by riding aboard the turboprop; harkening back to the old "wing and a prayer" days of pioneer transatlantic flying. In Fox News tradition, they don't go to 350 pound Haystack Calhoun the farm tractor salesman or to Grannie Grunts, but to the cute 5' 2" blonde with the cap who thinks a seat on the Q400 is as roomy as first class on an Airbus A380.

For those of you in MCO, ol' boy is an anchor on FOX 31 news here on the weekends. He must be doing something right.

Off subject, but there was a recent episode of South Park with Stan and Kyle as Guitar Heroes. Anyway, Stan was taken to this mansion featuring "Colorado's most famous". Included was Tom Shane (of the Tom Shane Jewelry I hear commercials on 850 KAO at night), Ron Zappollo (FOX 31's weekly anchor). Best of all was the Bronco's Jake Cutler. If I didn't live here, I wouldn't have gotten the joke, except for Jake.

Back to the news story. I didn't see the original broadcast that night, but they rehashed it in the morning after I got home from work. I thought I heard someone actually say it was bigger than a regional jet. Then back at the news desk Shawl Turner mentioned something stupid about the A380 and the other two people at the desk were sort of rolling their eyes.

I'm hoping to give the Q400 a shot when I can. TUL will have three daily flights to DEN using the Q400 by early January according to the F9 schedule. Scheduled flight time increases by only 8 minutes IIRC. I was hoping that we might keep at least one of the RP E170 flights but doesn't appear so. We were getting a daily A319 for a while, I'm assuming due to a shortage of E170's after the Horizon CR7's went away.
