ANA Launches Tokyo-San Francisco 777 Service

Wed Sep 27, 2000 10:25 am

See the following link:

This flight replaces a 747-400 flight. I guess we might be seeing more 777 flights across the Pacific. Another interesting thing is that they already fly a 777 on Tokyo-Chicago flight.

The 777 is always welcome at SFO. That's three carriers that fly it here now. And I heard that AF or BA, I forget which, is looking at bringing the 777 here.

Here at SFO, the two major airlines that fly the 777-200/200ER series to and from the airport are UA (which uses their huge maintainance base to service them) and KE (which has a flight direct from SEL).

I expect AA to start flying the 777-200ER from SFO probably in about a year or so.

I think you'll see the number of trans-pacific services on 777's increasing steadily in the next few years.

RayChuang-

Why would AA try and compete with UAL's stranglehold on the SFO market when they could (and are just now starting to) fly transpacific out of SJC?

Just my thought.

Pat,

Simple: AA is phasing out their DC-10 fleet and since AA has yet to order the 767-400ER, you may see a few 777-200ER's assigned for AA's SFO-HNL service.

I do know that UA is heavily using their 777-200 fleet between SFO and Hawaii.

Ray-

Duly noted. I had no idea that AA even offered service from SFO to HNL. Well, I said before, the 777 is always welcome at SFO. Don't you agree?

Does AA have 777s in domestic configuration, like United's A-market 777s?
