Delta Interiors

Sat Sep 30, 2000 12:34 pm

Hello to all, I have noticed in some of Delta's 757's, 767's, and MD-11's that they have "Blue Interiors", I personally dont like them as much as the White Interiors. Can anyone tell me when Delta started the "Blue Interiors"

Thanks,

Can you be more specific by what you mean by "blue interior" and "white interior"? Are you talking about the seats, carpet, panneling? Does anyone have a picture?

Are the interiors new or old? What's the difference?

About 3 years ago, I flew on Delta 767-200...it had bright orange and red seats with brown interior panels. It reaked 70s, even though it was built in the early 80s. Ugly Ugly Ugly.

I flew on a Delta 727 a couple of years ago that had orange/red seats and fake wood paneling on the bulkheads. It was ugly.

Heya, I've flown on 3 Delta 727's, and they were pretty ugly inside, I'm glad they are getting rid of them.

Air Travel is cheap.... if you wanted a nice seat, you should have flown first class. Delta's planes like the L-1011, 727, MD-88, 737-200, and any other plane that has been around a long time... have old interiors!! Why would Delta put new/nice seats and stuff in them if they are going to be gone soon?! Most of the interiors that people claim are "ugly" are old planes used on domestic routes. Delta's international planes are pretty nice. I don't know about you... but when I get on jetliner, I am really excited! Maybe the seat is not a lazy boy... but hell, that's all part of it! I don't expect to have a really nice seat when I fly coach for anyone! But... I love those seats! They are seats made for flying, and I love most thing that have to do with flying. For all you people that are too good for cheap flying... fly first class... and DON'T COMPLAIN!!

Well as a Delta Platinum flyer I can honestly say that I have been in every single type of aircraft that DL flies in the last year. There is no orange left except on the front bulkheads of the L1011's. All seating is now Dk. Blue Leather in First or Business Class. The coach seating is either the new blue diamond pattern or still a mix of grey, red and blue cloth seat in a mixed configuration in coach. As the 757's and 767's are sent in for their C checks, the interiors are being repainted to get rid of all traces of orange or rust including the accent trim at the overhead's. Same with the 727. The front bulkhead is a fake wood or carpet affair but it is no longer orange. The orange galley is also being painted off white. If your looking for orange any more a DL your not going to be successfull.

DL's MD-90's and L-1011's still have the 90's colors for their interiors...3 rows of coach in a navy blue with really small grey polka dots and 3 rows of grey with really small white polka dots. These seat covers alternate. The L-1011-500's have the first few rows in coach..the ones between 1st class and the 2 L/R doors in this color scheme, with the rest of coach in a different type of fabric, alternating red/grey/blue. These were the old colors of the int'l aircraft as well as the then newer 767's. As part of a new corporate branding campaign, the rest of the fleet got new interiors with a standardized color, the blue and tan diamonds on the fleet today. As the L-10's and MD-90 days were numbered, it was decided to just leave these planes alone until they are out of the fleet. As for the bulkheads, the dark blue with thin red lines were part of the 90's MD80/B727 interiors. They featured the alternating blue and grey mentioned earlier with a third color - red with really small white polka dots. The new interiors have grey with lt grey stripes. The fabric of the material for the bulkhead is subject to fraying very easily because of people putting their feet on the wall. As a result the blue/red are still around and aren't being replaced too rapidly.

Is it for psychology? Blue makes people feel better than white?

Yes... that's right! I am disrespectful!!

You go around talking about how Delta is your favorite airline and then you come in here and start dissing their seats?! Make up your mind!

I am just defending my favorite airline as I always do.

I don't have a clue where you came up with the word "disrespectful"! You can read about my thoughts of respect here... http://www.geocities.com/deltaairliners/hanksinfo.html

Also, while we are argueing...

"I've flown on 3 Delta 727's, and they were pretty ugly inside, I'm glad they are getting rid of them."

I completely disagree with what you are saying and I can't believe you said it! Everyone does have their own opinion, but it just seems like..
Since you well-knowed in this forum as one of Delta's biggest fans... that you would keep your negative thoughts about them to yourself.

I had actually tried to put all of this behind me... untill I saw that you posted that I was so "disrespectful"!

So, let me get this srt8... you can have an opinion, but I can't?!?! Is that what's going on here??

I ment everything that I said in my first post and I won't apologize for any of it.

I flew in an MD-90, I dont remember them having blue with grey little splotches or 'polka dots', I remember them being all white (at least in coach) with little grey splotches. The seats were blue. Uniteds 757s need an upgrade in the interior. The one I flew in still had the interior from their orange, red and blue livery days and there were orange and red stripes on the seats, very 70s.
