LHR is currently gone very quiet if anyone knows whats going on? The last two aircraft, Oman air and Croatia have went around about 10 mins ago and nothing has departed since.

When did you post this. 42 Min ago or earlier. There was a brief closer of the runway earlier due to a tech aircraft getting towed off the runway

Nice and clear here at LHR, but it is getting a bit chilly, and the wind is picking up.

Anyone know which aircraft this was?

Was at LHR this weekend; spent many wonderful hours on the embankment beside the T5 roundabout; beautiful weather, clear skies and warm ... could hardly have been better.

I was departing on the NZ001 from Gate 48 at 16:15 and the captain announced a 40 minute delay due to departure restrictions for an inbound aircraft issue: a few minutes later BA 763 G-BNWN landed on 27L with fire engines in attendance with its main gear doors open pic here

a few minutes after that the fire engines trundled off and the a/c was towed to the south side of the field but we lost sight of it as we overtook it and turned west to taxi for departure from 9R

glorious day at LHR - wish I could have stayed a while longer at Enterprise car rental to get a few more whiffs of scorched MLG rubber!

It was the EBB flight inbound with hydraulic problems that you see in the pic.

KL1021/1022 will be operated by a 747 today PH-BFM, the KL1019/1020 is cancelled due to the aircraft being tech'.
When in doubt give it a clout

Although the 767 got a welcome from emergency services, the runway was closed temporarily in the evening as a 747 had a burst main landing gear tyre and had to be towed off, which is why BA9216C saw the Croation and Oman air go around.
next flights : LHR-SOF BA, SOF-DOH-KAT QR, KAT-HKG KA, HKG-LHR VS, LHR-ATH-LHR BA, LHR-CDG-LHR AF, LHR-MAD-LHR IB/BA

Looking at the KLM timetable for the day, KLM1022 departs at 17:10, so i am hoping this will be the 747 departure?

Departing from 09R last week, got a good view over the T2 works area. It looks like we might see the skeleton of T2B phase 2 going up really soon.

Press release

New taxiways will be built to accomodate this. When they say new taxiways though, I don't know what they could mean.

In wider news, it says that they will be improving compensation to nearby residents including financial assistance to people selling their homes. Hey, here's an idea, why don't you buy the houses and knock them down. Even if you never get any approval to expand, at the very least you could make a buffer zone around the airport, meaning less whinging neighbours and more scope for you to use the land for less NIMBY baiting purposes. Also, the less houses around, the easier it will be to get an upgrade for the A312, which is essential for relieving the most congested part of the M25. If enough of the neighbours are cleared out, the opposition to mixed mode in the future may not be so vociferous.

It's like those horrible houses fronting the A406 North Circular Road near Neasden. They were sitting derelict and then the Mayor putting people back in them. Total idiocy. They should have been knocked down. Having driveways on the North Circular Road is insane.

Wasn't it announced that the Cranford Agreement would be suspended in Jan '10? So, now we're seeing the consultation - hopefully we'll soon see more slots released and less congestion.

I have been witnessing a much more varied pattern of landings recently, with both runways being used regularly, is that a testing / trial for full mixed runway use?

Anyone know why PM-MPP has taken off so late tonight?

Now, now, you know I am pro-aviation, but no one in their right mind should be exposed to the noise levels of Heathrow if it can be avoided. I used to live on the Isle of Dogs and having the window open at 5am was enough to wake me up as the arrivals stream kicked on some power to turn off base leg onto finals for 27L and R. Lovely view but still (!)

Anyone living under the 09R departures track would not have been, or have expected to have been subjected to such a constant stream of noise. This is not true for the other options. My point is that living near Heathrow is a nightmare for many. We're about to add to detract from the quality of life of a lot of people who were given good reason to expect that this would not happen.

Still on the plus side, new options to shoot departures going off 09R. So that's all right then. Now if we could only lose Sipson.....

Dear me, I just don't know my left from my right. During the snow incidents recently, the North runway was opened first so the seldom seen 09L departures were seen. Standard departures to the East are of course off 09RIGHT. Now excuse me while I stick some post it notes on my hands to help.....

Those extra links for 09L marr the whole look. There is elegance to current spacing of link ways around the T5 apron.

My point is that living near Heathrow is a nightmare for many.

And yet they're still there. Why isn't Cranford being bought up? They've had 60 years to make a start and they've done nothing about it. They just stay there and moan. Come on, Heathrow, give them a bung and get them out of there. That land would be so much more useful to people who actually want to be near the airport aka businesses.

There are other benefits as well. I'm having a field day thinking of great ways to realign the Parkway as a high quality dual carriageway if that benighted town was out of the way.

Transport planners of the World, unite! You have nothing to lose but your NIMBYs!
