Looks like the roof is coming along now. Is it still growing? It's now so big I can't tell. The Western side looked like there is still more to be added.

According to the 2011 CIP, the building is supposed to be weathertight within 6 months.

Also according to the CIP, demolition on the old control tower complex is getting underway to make space for a new road system in the CTA, which will be freeflowing, by which I assume they mean involving grade separation. The landside tunnel is also due for refurbishment to make it look nicer. Nothing about implementing a free flow from the M4 spur though. The M4 spur looks l like a sperm.

From driving along the A30, I see that T2B phase 2 is now definitely popping up. I haven't been able to get a good look though because I need to spend an annoying proportion of time looking where I'm going.

Anyone departing today, they were on the Easterlies this morning, so get a seat on the left side and get the camera ready for a shot of the construction site on take-off.

Interesting views from T3 of all the AA jets parked up awaiting their chance to go home, as well as 2 CO jets.

IB sent in a 340 today due to help out with a canx they had, did try to get a look at her landing but missed out. According to the handy Iphone App Plane Finder it was EC-IOB.

I counted ar least three Delta B764s, four CO B752s, two AA B752s and three B772s parked up. BA also had G-BNLE and G-BNLN outside the B763 hangar as they seemed to be running out of room to park aircraft. Oddest sight was BA retrojet G-CPET retired ten months ago getting a full on wash by three mechanics on a bank holiday weekend. I haven't seen this aircraft in months, where was it hangared? Assumed it was one of the white tails at LGW.

G-BUSJ last commercial flight is into LHR from BUD on the evening of 31 Aug.
It will then stay at LHr for the weekend (Open day?) and position down to LGW
on 6 Sep.

The BA Open Day looks like it coiuld be quite a nostalgic event what with the last BA 320 211 at LHR:

A little creative license from BA or is there going to be a surprise visitor?

Qantas have a 380 on the ground all day, very easy to nab one and park it on site.

I mean they don't *REALLY* want G-BUSJ, it would look good in my back garden. Do you think if I asked nicely they'd let me have it? Indeed would TFL permit her on the Piccadilly Line or would I have to turn to StreetVan for help? I wonder.....

She'd have a better home than G-ARVM and G-APFJ   OK I'll stop now.....

I drove past the BA maintenance base on Saturday and saw G-CPET (Boeing 757-200 in Negus livery) receiving a nice wash. Seems like she will also be on display after sitting in a hangar since being taken out of service last year.

I wonder what will happen to her or if BA will keep hold of her?

Correction. OJS is in standard Qantas paint scheme. Used to be the Socceroos liveried aircraft, but the world cup was over a year ago so it's about time they got rid of the scheme.

Sorry to change topics yet again, I'm sure everyone will know by now but BUSJ unfortunately did not quiet make it into the openday. She was parked next to the fence on the mx parking stands with her livery removed. However on the plus side i was well pleased to see EUNA here. I beleive the First BA A318 to come to heathrow and not likely to return unless she comes for another open day next year. This does make her a rare jet into heathrow so hopefully some great shots will show up on the net.

Yes saw her sitting on the ramp.....next stop the butchers block

But what a great day it was. BA really pulled the stops out and made it a cracking event. My highlights? Firstly a cockpit vist to CPET in red tail livery and a chat to the superbly informative 757 captain manning the steps and secondly having an inpromptu picnic with my six year old son under the wing of BNLA with the mighty Rollers ticking away beside us in the Westerly breeze

The 380 was superb and the 318 an wonderful and unexpected surprise

Wonder if we will get to see a 787 next year?

I was lucky to visit G-BUSJ and G-CPET a few weeks ago so for this open day the A380 was certainly the highlight. Being the actual test aircraft it was the best aircraft to be on so what a rare opportunity. Thank you BA and Airbus.

Others have covered it adequately, but I thought I'd chuck some of my own photos in from Saturday's Open Day. The highlights for me were the A318 and Club World London City product, seeing the A380 in a state of undress inside, seeing G-CPET before it disappears to Fedex, getting to see (and sample) the new cabins on G-STBC, and just generally being able to wander around so close to the aircraft! Really enjoyed it, and the staff there were a credit to BA.

With the recently announced changes to the Qantas schedule to LHR, there is also a significant bit of history ending in the months ahead when they move over to just the twice daily A380 instead of the 4 flights they have presently split between the A380 and 747. When the schedules change (I assume in the Spring 2012...I don't have the exact date the changes start), then Qantas will become the latest in a long list of ex-747 operators to LHR. Since they were among one of the first to send the 747 into LHR, in 1971 it will be a notable day to see the last Qantas 747 at LHR after 41 years.

Enjoy them while they last!

Nice photos i wll have to try and visit an open day at LHR one year. Its a shame Qantas are reducing operations at LHR, this means not seeing them at all because when i arrive at the earliest, they have landed and parked long ago and when i leave they wont be gone until around 10pm. I will try and enjoy the daytime 747s while they last.

Anyone know what's up with Qantas A380 VH-OQJ... According to the Qantas Source it has been on the ground at LHR for a few days citing technical problems.

If it is still there, there must be something quite big to repair or maybe a lack of spare parts?

Anyone have any info about this?
