Status Of N717XA

Fri Sep 02, 2011 7:38 am

Does anyone know what happened to N717XA? I've found no photos since 2002 and I checked airfleets.net and it says stored, I checked the CN and all I could find was Boeing as a operator. Any help?

Here was the last photo I found-

Scrapped in 2005, unless I'm mistaken.

Still parked on the old commercial flight ramp at KLGB minus numerous parts.

FAA shows the registration cancelled September 26, 2005 with the reason listed as "destroyed".

De-registered and listed as scrapped may not mean the actual airplane has been broken down completely, keep in mind.

There an Ex-EA/FE 727-100 up at PAE that was "scrapped" ages ago but is still used for training and educational purposes.

Where is it at exactly because I did not see it when I flew in to LGB back in April?

Last I heard, it is in the process of being scrapped. I'm not sure what side of the airfield it's on either.

It's funny to read in that thread, the many members talking about DL's "premature retirement of the MD90" from the fleet, whereas the aircraft is enjoying a renaissance at DL. Just goes to show, anything can happen in this industry

I took this not-so-good picture in sept 2009.

It's parked on the northern side of the airfield, along with a C130 and C17 fuselage.

I also found this image on the web.
Taken october 2009.

If you take a look on google maps, you will see that it's still there as of 2011.

If you look at it using Bing maps, it is there in three out of four views. In the fourth "Birds Eye" view, it is completely gone.

FX1816,

The MD-95 (717-200) prototype N717XA, is parked on the old commercial flight ramp (flight test ramp) as I stated earlier which is located on the northside of the airport. It is not easy to see when arriving in Long Beach on Rwy 30 but If you came in on Rwy 12 and were sitting on the leftside of the aircraft (captains side) you would be able to she her as you flew past.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
