Can some of you in the know post an updated summary with the TOTAL count of Delta Connection aircraft by contracted carrier? and a/c model? by adding a Column Total already Painted to the below chart? So that way we can see the counts in New Paint as well as the counts to be Repainted.
I don't track the details well enough, and frankly get confused with all the talk of some of the regional carriers transferring aircraft to one another, or transferring aircraft to operations for a different carrier as well as what I understand is a continuation of the 2011-2012 planned retirement of CRJ's that have leases expiring?

Also does the contract that Skywest has with Delta specify a certain number (such as a minimum and maximum) of the Skywest house color painted aircraft, i.e. out of the 20 indicated as ''not for repainting'' is there a specific number that have to be dedicated to Delta operations? I understand that the intent is probably to serve as operational spares or to rotate in for other a/c undergoing maintenance. Does the contract allow the Skywest house color a/c to fill as a spare for the aircraft normally operated by the other connection carriers? i.e. can a Skywest plane fill in for a Expressjet(ASA) Delta Connection flight if Expressjet(ASA) has one that goes down for unscheduled maintenance?

thanks

The SkyWest aircraft that are listed as "Not for repainting" are operational spares that can be freely transfered between SkyWest's contracts when there is a need for additional capacity or to fill in for aircraft that are out for maintenance.

SkyWest's contract with Delta specifies how many aircraft are dedicated to DLC ops, and those are the aircraft painted in DL colors. It is possible that DL may also temporarily contract for additional aircraft if the demand warrants, and SkyWest may dedicate these aircraft without repainting them in order to save cost if since it may only be a temporary assignment. I don't think all 20 SkyWest house aircraft are dedicated to DL ops but rather rotate through as needed.

As for filling in for other carriers, that can't happen. SkyWest aircraft are only operated by SkyWest crews flying routes that SkyWest is contracted for. For a SkyWest aircraft to fill in for ExpressJet/ASA, the aircraft would have to be transferred to the ExpressJet/ASA certificate and flown by their crews (which could be done since SkyWest owns XE/ASA). A SkyWest aircraft could not fill in for Chautauqua or Comair or any other DLC carrier.

The other carriers have generic-livery spares as well, including ExpressJet/ASA, but they are not included on these lists. (Except for Comair, since they don't operate for anyone other than DL, they don't need any generic aircraft).
I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day.

When was the last time you flew 720? Just came in from Minneapolis and she's about to taxi out from C45 it looks like and the fuselage is in terrible shape! The paint below the windows of the last few rows on the starboard side is all gone!

Not long ago, I'm embarrassed every time I do. It has had that section missing ever since I was based in SLC (5 or 6 years ago) with ASA. It must of had a bad paint job from the beginning. I hope they paint it soon!

Chautauqua Airlines E145

24 in service, 10 in Colors in Motion, 2 in a white fuselage and blue tail.

Comair

CRJ: 40 in service, all 40 are painted.
CRJ-700: 15 in service, 4 in Colors in Motion, 11 in On and Up.
CRJ-900: 13 in service, all are painted

Compass

E170: I believe 5 are in service, all are painted in On and Up
E175: 36 in service, all in On and Up paint.

ExpressJet

CRJ: 99 in service, 8 in Colors in Motion, 91 in On and Up
CRJ700: 38 in service, 19 in Colors in Motion, 19 in On and Up
CRJ900: 10 in service, all in On and Up

GoJet CRJ700:

They are to have 12 CR7s? But I only have N numbers for 10 and I if N668CA is going to them, I have it yet to be painted…

Pinnacle

CRJ: 141 in service, all in On and Up
CRJ900: 57 in service, all in On and UP

Shuttle America

E170: I believe there could be 14 flying for DL? However, many of the N numbers I have for them are or were in Midwest paint, so I am unsure of the E170 fleet…
E175: 16 in service, all in On and Up

SkyWest

EMB-120: 12 Aircraft fly for Delta, but they are not ship specific and none are in Delta paint.
CRJ: 62 in service, 4 in Colors in Motion, 7 in SkyWest colors, 51 in On and Up

Thank you C767P
So the way I calculate it ---please correct my mistakes-- the percentage of Delta Connection in the new paint has reached some impressive totals:
Carrier % of DL assigned Fleet in New Paint Total ac Assigned to Delta
Chatauqua 58%? 24
Comair 93% 68
Compass 100% 41~
Expressjet 82% 147
GoJet 83-100%~? 12
Pinnacle 100% 198
Shuttle America E170 ?% 14~?
Shuttle America E175 100% 16
Skywest E120 0% 12
jets 74%* 102

*Skywest: max percentage of Delta assigned jet a/c that could be in new colors would be 93% assuming the 7 ac planned to be remaining in house colors.

Time to start placing bets on which will be the last Colors in Motion aircraft and who will spot the last one.

On a side note, anyone know why the CP 170's had the forward part of the vertical stabilizer painted blue? The 175's are left white.

The Shuttle America 170s are also differentiated in the same way. It's either to make the 170s and 175s easily distinguishable from a distance, or a design change to be more consistent with the mainline fleet.

Hurray for inconsistency. The Compass 170s and 175s were all painted at GLH, so you'd think they would get painted the same. Republic handles their own painting, so I could see those being different.

These are all tail numbers owned by DL and were once operated by Comair. DL reallocated these aircraft under lease agreements in late 2006 to early 2007, 8 to EV and 4 to OO, for a 5 year term and will now transition to the G7 fleet.

My understanding is the white tails will continue to be white tails, none will be repainted into DL colors. Also the 120's will not be painted either, they will stay OO colors.

You might want to update this little section, as OO no longer flies for FL -- but I'd imagine that these could see service as spares for the US flying OO does now.

Thanks, did somewhere I read that the E120's would only be kept through 2012? and then DL would have no more turboprop aircraft left?

That would be up to OO. All the 120 flying for DL is at-risk. They don't care what they use.

Actually DL does care because it has to be part of the Pro-Rate contract. I don't have any knowledge other than seeing what's going on, I suspect we'll see the 120's flying into next year at a min because there are no replacement for them.
