Pity it isn't the passenger version, but, oh well.
I only turn left when boarding aircraft. Well, mostly. All right, sometimes. OH OKAY - rarely.

I have never liked this tail. The fade outs go waaaaaaaaaaaay too light, almost looks like the paint is faded and worn as soon as it comes out of the shop.

Aeroflot and Delta (back in the deltaflot c/s) have a "waving flag" type of thing, and theirs seem crisper and not as warn looking:

Yes, I noticed that too. The curvature is different. But when BA started the Union Flag tail, it looked different on planes of the same type too. Very odd is that the lower red ribbon ends with the tailfins lower edge for most of the time.

There was a slight change from the v2 with the arrival of G-YMMR but all subsequent B744 repaints had the original Union Flag as worn by G-BNLB..... I believe G-BNLU now looks to have the latest modifed fun and crest! Just to be different they have given G-GSSD the last two on the fin instead of the last three.

All recent deliveries from Airbus to BA have the last two on the fin, all resprays across Airbus and Boeing since ~ 2006 have the last three. It's inconsistent yet consistent at the same time since recent B777s have the last three from G-YMMR whereas G-GSSD has the last two, though technically not BA (honest guv)

Thank you, looking at some more pictures I see what he means now. I suppose it is possible that they went with 2 letters on this plane to avoid writing SS, but I don't know how sensitive that is in the UK.

I just don't like the cargo version of the 748. With the smaller hump, it looks like a 742.

Zing lol.

I see slightly different proportions to the 748F relative to other short-hump 747s though. I'm not sure if there's actually a greater distance between the end of the hump and the beginning of the wing, but it looks like there is owing to the greater fuselage length, making the cockpit section look less "flowing" and more like a sort of turret stuck on top. I also like the way they did the flag, can't quite pin down how it's different from previous iterations though.

Engineers.......jump in here and help me. Painting jobs aside, wouldn't the height of the vertical stabilizer coupled with the longer fuselage of the -8F and the -8i, by definition, NOT have to be as tall of the previous versions due to the leverage of the longer fuselage? After all, I believe that the vertical stabilizer on the shorter -SP version was/is the tallest of all the 747 stabilizers. Boeing is saving weight and drag perhaps?

And the blue wave runs across the entire width of the tail now, unlike in that second picture. The whole thing is just a lot more spread out and less intricate by the looks of things -- less flow in each wave (ie they originate a lot closer together on the 744) and less detailed fade (that could just be the lighting conditions)...

It's still unmistakably BA though

Seeing the 744 and 748 tails together, the "new" version of the Union Jack on the 748's tail looks sloppy. The proportions are better when the Union Jack isn't spread out so much. The fades and shadows look more like an after-thought, rather than integral to the design. The rest of the scheme looks really good...too bad about the tail.

Look at the Global Supply Systems website. They fly British and other crews under this company to make sure BA don't have the expense of flying an inhouse operation. They fly three (ex) Atlas B744s, to be replaced by three B747-8Fs. The B744s are in a bespoke Atlas like scheme after the first and only BA liveried aircraft was resprayed when it went on the British register, N495MC in the beautiful Chelsea Rose colours.

I love the new tail look hope the passenger fleet starts applying it soon. The changes include waviness reduced, the part near the tail front cut off bringing the highlighted bit more forward.

I hope the board get fired immediately if their future multi billion fleet replacement decisions are based on how an aircraft looks.

I've said it and I'll say it again. BA are not interested in the 8i. All recent speculation of renewed interest has, I am reliably informed, come from Boeing trying to bundle it in with other widebody proposals.

None of these should be sensitive at all anymore! Only if the registration of an airplane contains SS shouldn't mean that the Airline "supports" what happened back then.

In Germany licence plates with SS were forbidden for many years for that reason, but now it is allowed again... It is time to move on!

If you forbid all abbreviations which might contain negative signs, then better don't put up any letters at all...

First obstacle cleared, it's been built, second obstacle will they accept it? Let's wait and see.

Yes. They will.

Originally the three 747 87U F aircraft for GSS/BA World Cargo were:

G-GSSD: c/n 37562 l/n 1429 RC571. Now on Boeing flight line PAE in Basic BA c/s (White upper fuselage and tail, dark blue lower fuselage and engines

G-GSSE: c/n 37563 l/n 1432 RC572. Now on Boeing flight line PAE all white

G-GSSF: c/n 37564 l/n 1437 RC573. Now on Boeing flight line PAE all white

These aircraft did not meet the specification detailed in the contract between Boeing and Atlas Air. So Atlas Air invoked a clause in the contract that allowed them to cancel the order. So, instead of leasing these aircraft to GSS to be operated on behalf of BA World Cargo they are leasing the fourth, fifth and sixth aircraft produced by Boeing against the original Atlas Air order.

These three aircraft are:

G-GSSD: c/n 37565 l/n 1442 RC574. Now on Boeing flight line PAE in full BA Union Flag livery - see photo linked by Thread Opener.

G-GSSE: c/n 37566 l/n 1444 RC575. Now on Boeing flight line PAE unpainted

G-GSSF: c/n 37567 l/n 1445 RC576. Now on Boeing flight line PAE unpainted

All three of the above aircraft are slated for 2011 delivery

Quoting alphaomega (Reply 26):
So BA pilots or Atlas?

GSS (Global Supply Systems) pilots. If you look at the photo linked by the Thread Opener you will see small 'operated by Global Supply Systems' titles in two lines on the forward fuselage below the flight-deck windows.

Quoting CapEd388 (Reply 34):

The three new 748Fs will replace the three 744Fs registered G-GSSA, 'SB and 'SC that currently comprise the BA World Cargo long haul freighter fleet. (They lease in DHL Air freighter aircraft for short haul freighter operations. These aircraft only operate a small number of flights each week and operate in standard DHL Air livery.)

Quoting CapEd388 (Reply 34):
Do they all have this World Cargo livery?

No. The existing 744Fs are in Global Supply Systems livery (adapted from Atlas Air livery) with 'operated for British Airways World Cargo' nose titles:
