Republic Airlines Operational Meltdown 06Oct?

I understand as of 12EDT Republic Airlines had cancelled 81 flights, while merely operating 27 during the AM hours..

Anyone have any further?

Have not heard anything. My report this evening is still showing ontime at 1710 EDT.

Looks to be mostly US - PHL/DCA/CLT.

Cancels are up to 93.

Still showing an ontime report. It is only attributable to Computer System Crash at HDQ. It has been down since around 0500 EDT this morning and keeps going up and down.

It could have something to do with the interface to DECS. DECS is the software used by USAirways for Dispatch functions and its used by express stations to pull up flight releases for the flight crews. Since most of the Regionals use a different software for releases than DECS, you have to get the two systems talking to each other, and it doesn't always work.

I believe that Republic uses Sabre Dispatch Monitor for their flight releases (Which is what most regional airlines and a couple of majors, noteably JetBlue use). Sabre Dispatch Manager and Sabre DECS often have problems talking to each other, and since USAirways won't help the regionals solve the problem, the regionals are left to deal with the consequences when something like this happens.

The report I saw was only for Republic, so the 170 and 190 flying they do for US and F9 is affected.

The PHL website Flight information screen shows several Republic flights either cancelled or delayed significantly on the US side but the F9 side is on time.

Incidentally, almost all the other flights into or out of PHL are on time.

This is not what RAH needs now.

ther was defintely some effect on the F9 side as i had stranded travelers calling in early this a.m. from SEA and DRO ,saying F9 bascially wasnt goping anywhere for half the day due to computer outage!

Not related at all. The F9 MKE flights from PHL are operated by RP, not YX. This was specific to the YX certificate.

There was a rumor floating around that Republic was near bankruptcy. Or this something between Republic and US Airways? I checked and Republic showed around 30 aircraft flying right now - rather scatter routes mainly northern US..

Even if RJET declared bankruptcy today (and that isn't happening any time soon), it would not have an immediate affect on operations. This is just a Republic (not Chatauqua, not Shuttle America, not F9) computer issue that has caused several delayed or cancelled flights today.

I noticed that F9's MKE and MCI flights were 5-6 hours delayed today at MSP. The one US-coded MSP-PHL operated by YX appeared to operate on time.

I noticed the same at OKC. The outbound morning E190 flight was nearly 6 hours late, but the Airbus flights were on time. If it isn't canceled, the evening inbound E190 will be about 7 hours late.

LOL! Republic is not near bankruptcy. Let's put that rumor to rest. There was indeed system issues, and Republic is working very hard to fix it. Nobody wants these types of problems, but they do happen from time to time. In fact, I can't think of one major airline that has not had a complete mess happen with system issues.

Unless there was weather in GEG I doubt it was a coincidence. There were bad winds in DEN today and several of F9's flights diverted to COS. F9 did operate some Airbus flights for the E190's this morning. I noticed a PHX and ABQ were switched to Airbus. Maybe GEG was boooked light today.

Is this computer problem confirmed? Hard to believe so many flights would be cancelled due to computer issue. Delays and a few cancellations possible but the counts were getting rather high for a while.

Looks like the cancel tally on Thursday was 167, nearly 1/3 of the days total schedule.
Much of what did operate experienced huge delays with OT performance being merely 16%. Some 210 of flights were 45+min late.

About 13 residual cancels today.
