Air To Air (a380) Video

Sun Oct 30, 2011 2:04 am

Very cool air to air video, shows truly how fast this large plane travels... Looks to me it's a QF a380... what are your guesses?

It is a KE A380.

Actually, NM, I do believe it is a QF A380, the fuselage color is a reflection, and I clearly see a red tail at second look.

From the date of the upload, it has to be a QF A380.

a QF380 flying over the South China Sea (warned by HK air traffic control as per the video's text) however?

I'll second that, definitely a red tail.

yeah it should be Qantas -a red tail. But why QF flew in HKG airspace and then to LHR? What a strange flightpath.

Yeah i saw an AA flew underneath my plane - AS 734. I was so relaxed to see the beautiful view of US landscape/farm... then suddenly i was suprised to see an AA B752 came out so quicky like a ghost and flew sooooo fast I've ever seen! It was so close to each other!

Cool video no doubt. It's always fun when such things happen while flying. Is the A380 really much faster than other planes or is this just the camera effect?

Same speed as usual. Probably looks faster as the plane the video is taken from travels in the opposite direction. The two planes are probably passing each other with around 1000-1200 MP/H.

No, it's not faster than any other plane. The 747 is the fastest commercial jetliner flying today.

Exactly. The A380 or any other plane would look just as fast or appear to travel as quickly. It is nothing special for the A380. I can tell you that if you were doing the same thing in a car, a car approaching you at 120km/h and you traveling at the same rate you would think that other car was "fast".

Cool video!!

I got overtaken by another GA the other day with a speed difference of maybe 15 Kts--> I felt like I was stopped in the air!
They came very close (as was planned by the both of us) for a photo shoot and I noticed how deceiving the difference in speed can be!

Its definitely a QF A380, at 1:08 if you freeze frame at 720p you can see QANTAS written on the side of the aircraft. In August 2010 VH-OQB-F had been delivered. CZ and KE didn't have any.

As to why it would be over the South China Sea I have no idea, as far as I know QF have never operated the A380 to China Hong Kong or Japan. The KL 747 was likely going BKK-HKG so would it be fair to suggest the A380 was headed HKG-SIN?

Both the A380 and the B747 cruise at M 0.85. They are evenly fast in every day operations, there is no difference. Only on maximum speed, which is virtually never used at all, the B747 (due to the now less then economical wing configuration) is faster then all other modern airliners with M0.92.

Most other airliners normally cruise at M0.80 to M0.84, so the A380 and the B747 are just a little bit faster then "any other plane".

That video is very nice, but has been posted here before. I have seen it before today multiple times.  . It still is very nice footage though.
