B747 Crash In Burbank, CA (FAKE)

Thu Nov 03, 2011 12:50 am

I was browsing google maps and found this:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Burban...,+Los+Angeles,+California&t=h&z=20

Is this a real 747 and also, what movie was this set for?

Hi,

Universal Studies - War of the worlds (2005) - went there in 2007. Yes, it is a real 747. Do a google search, as they have some interesting information.

Hope this helps!

Looks *very* fake when seen from the air like that. No 747 would ever break up in that pattern. It looks a lot more plausible in the movie, which is shot from ground level. You can't see the livery at all in the movie (that I recall) - I had no idea this was a former ANA plane before seeing these images.

btw this was apparently the plane in its former glory:

The plane crashed right outside Norman Bates house in Psycho.

You can see it up close if you do the tram tour at Universal Studios.

I would have thought that NH would insist their livery was completely removed before this was done.

If you look at the photo posted by N14AZ, they only really shot the movie from the vantage point of the road (both the main road and the road nearest the forward section) towards the main wreckage. So you can see that the camera would have never been in a position to capture the livery in the film, and I'm sure that's all ANA would have been concerned about. Google Maps didn't even launch until 2005, so when this plane was bought there probably just wasn't any consideration for the public having easy access to high-res satellite or aerial views. Maybe now they'd be a little more concerned about it.

I noticed this is an 'SR-81' - what main variant is that a part of 100/200/300?

The last time I went on the tour, I noticed the Eng behind the van on the right side of the tour bus was a RB-211. The fan still turned and clanked

-100, the SR is quite an oddball project - Boeing even built a few with stretched upper decks.

It's a variant of the 100 series designed for the short range high capacity Japanese routes.

And the landing gear and wing spar are from an L-1011.

At the 20 second mark you can see an old Delta cowling. Could that be from the L1011 that they scrounged other parts from?

I'm pretty sure this is in Nicki Minaj's song, rather ironically called 'Fly'.

Not sure if I really like the song, but the aircraft in Nicki's video is definitely is the old ANA 747.

The ANA B747 looked quite good.

However, the sound and picture quality were both pretty rubbish.

My cat could do a better job.

When I saw the "crash site" in the movie I thought to myself, luckily the parts fell in such a way that there is enough space to ride through the debris in a normal car   Very unrealistic.

Best regards

It is a L-1011 MLG. I would assume they picked it up in Victorville, where they got the rest of the parts!

Just two -100B-SUDs were built, both SR models for JL.

Indeed.
Shaking my head at using such a scenery for a song named "Fly". I don't want to get shabby on the subject, but I think it's not quite thoughtful to use this scene when thinking about the fact that some people actually suffered an aircraft accident like this while, obviously, "flying". I don't know, I just don't like the over-use of over-emotion in modern-day pop music. I apologize.
At least the video shows how massively huge the elevators are on a 747 compared to a horribly make-uped girl.
