Quoting kl911 (Reply 3): Bad for LH, but good news for KLM I guess |
Quoting WestJet747 (Reply 6): But this seems like a very odd move based on kevin's statement.... |
Quoting C172Akula (Reply 7): I flew this service once a year (in January) and can also speak to the aircraft being very full (including business class). I think my last flight economy seemed almost completely full and business was at about 80% capacity. |
Quoting kl911 (Reply 8): Loadfactor doesnt say anything about yields though. Might as well have been discount fares or mileage tickets. |
Quoting thenoflyzone (Reply 11): as AC is still there to offer the service. |
Quoting thenoflyzone (Reply 11): The folks over at YEG must be smiling right about now ! |
Quoting point2point (Reply 13): But with AC still on the route, isn't there also some sort of sharing here? Can/do AC/LH share revenue here? |
Quoting flyb (Reply 14): Why would they care? It's not like LH is going to start a route there, or AC for that matter. |
Quoting point2point (Reply 13): But with AC still on the route, isn't there also some sort of sharing here? Can/do AC/LH share revenue here? |
Quoting thenoflyzone (Reply 15): I hear ya, but i would imagine some Edmontonians don't mind seeing a -1 for YYC.... |
Quoting Ferminios (Reply 10): Also, considering that Condor operated twice weekly last summer with a 763, maybe they will increase their service as well? |
Quoting EddieDude (Reply 19): Is it? Lots of oil and gas. |
Quoting Ferminios (Reply 10): but YYC is a low yielding market indeed that has seen a tremendous increase in seats over the last few years to Europe with KL, LH and BA having arrived in the last 5 years. It's still odd I think since KL is retaining 5-weekly service this winter and will go 6-weekly next summer as it stands now. |
Quoting EddieDude (Reply 19): Is it? Lots of oil and gas. |
Quoting lightsaber (Reply 21): Will KL grow to 7 weekly with the LH departure? |
Quoting Ferminios (Reply 20): That's true, however most seats on flights to YYC (at least from Europe) are filled with tourists heading to the Rockies or heading to family. |
Quoting flyb (Reply 14): Quoting point2point (Reply 13): But with AC still on the route, isn't there also some sort of sharing here? Can/do AC/LH share revenue here? That is what I'm thinking. |
Quoting Viscount724 (Reply 26): With the weak economic situation in much of Europe (and likely to get worse before it gets better) it's not surprising carriers are cutting back capacity. I expect there will be much more of this type of action over the next few months. |
Quoting MarcoPoloWorld (Reply 28): Seems like Calgary is somewhat over-served to Europe, and under-served (as in hardly at all) to Asia. So maybe this wasn't entirely unexpected |

Quoting thenoflyzone (Reply 11): Obivously YYC cannot handle all these big boys at once. |
Quoting threepoint (Reply 31): I said pretty much the same thing a year ago and was vilified on this forum for being so 'anti-Calgary'. |
Quoting kl911 (Reply 3): Bad for LH, but good news for KLM I guess. Does anyone know if that flight is doing well? |
Quoting wilco737 (Reply 34): That is interesting. I can still find the FRA-YYC-FRA flight as LH494 throughout July 2012... It always says 343 on that route all the way from January to July 2012. I checked in the LH system and there are even already booked seats on some flight... Strange. |
Quoting mah4546 (Reply 35): Discontinued flights remain in booking systems until passengers are reaccomodated. If you try to make a new booking, you won't be able to. |
Quoting C010T3 (Reply 17): These slots are just perfect to make FRA-GIG daily... (at least the southbound segment) |
Quoting EddieDude (Reply 19): Is it? Lots of oil and gas. |
Quoting Ferminios (Reply 20): That's true, however most seats on flights to YYC (at least from Europe) are filled with tourists heading to the Rockies or heading to family. |
Quoting LipeGIG (Reply 38): I would say here that it is a matter of Germany isn't such a key market for oil & gas. Compared to UK (Aberdeen), the ties on oil & gas are not that big. |
Quoting thenoflyzone (Reply 29): Speaking of LH in Canada, when they decided to leave the YUL market way back when, they returned in 2005 with service from MUC, and not FRA. Is that scenario plausible in the case of YYC? This way, the flight wont compete directly with AC's service. |
Quoting thenoflyzone (Reply 29): Either way, I'm confident LH will give it a try once again at YYC in a few years, once the international market solidifies. |
Quoting thenoflyzone (Reply 29): Is that scenario plausible in the case of YYC? This way, the flight wont compete directly with AC's service. |
Quoting Viscount724 (Reply 44): This is the 2nd time LH has pulled out of YYC. Their initial service sometime in the late 1970s or early '80s only lasted a year or two. It was an enroute stop to YVR using DC-10-30s, about twice a week. I flew LH once FRA-YVR during that period and recall the YYC stop. When they dropped YYC they maintained YVR which then became nonstop. |
