RE: Monarch Airlines' 2nd Enthusiast's Day

Both flights had excellent take off rates of climb. Tour around the Monarch hanger was excellent, the staff were very accommodating, allowing us an in depth mooch around the facility and an educational look inside the A330 which has returned from the hajj.
Looking forward to another trip

I managed to get on board the trip.

Someone had to cancel on Tuesday, which meant getting the day off a short notice, arranging trains and change in accomodation at short notice.

Agreed that it was a great trip, and will try to get on next one as well.

One semi off topic point;

During the QA session, the Monarch Rep said that they are re evaluating long haul following cancellation of B787, and that they are getting 2 "new " aircraft next year flying from Birmingham.

Given that they are re evaluating Long Haul, I took these to be Short Haul. Also, given that they have apparently not been ordered yet, (he was a bit coy about details) I suspect that they are "new" to Monarch, (it seems too quick to get new new aircraft).

If so, what types do you reckon, (2 seems a bit of a small sub fleet).

Yeah, he said they were due in Summer 2012. I know it isn't the most reliable source but on Wikipedia it says they are due two more A320's to be delivered in March 2012. Could these possibly be it? Or are we talking more aircraft on top of these two?

Well they have no B737, so A320/A321 makes sense.

As the Summer seems too quick for new aircraft, the obvious question is where are they coming from.

Two A320s from Air Berlin, apparently.
