Air Algerie 747, After 28 Years, The Pics...

Thu Nov 17, 2011 12:39 pm

Hello

After the publication of the Libyan Arab Airlines 747 photos yesterday, time has come to publish the Air Algerie 747s today.

My information about these two airliners are as follow, please tell me if there is a mistake.

These two planes were originally built for Braniff. But BN didn't take delivery, so the Algerian carrier bought them for the long haul route Algiers-New-York JFK-Montreal, and for the high density route Algiers-Paris-ORY. They were painted in the original AH livery, and they have been provisionally registered N8284V and N8285V.

But after some financial problems, the delivery was canceled, and the airliners were stored in Las Vegas, fully painted but the titles, the logo and the Algerian flag were removed.

Later, Air Algerie bought a serie of Boeing 737 to replace the two 747, who were then sold to Northwest.

sadly, we did never see these very nice birds on our airports...

Now, I start to post the photos on Airliners.net, first the B&W then the color ones. I hope you will enjoy them...

Love that photo--the wide angle lens makes the 747 look like a monster compared to the tiny 762s behind it.

Operating a twin over the ocean, you're always one engine failure from a total emergency.

Like for the Libyan 747 photos yesterday, if someone would receive full scans of the Air Algerie 747 I will show here, just contact me at : [email protected]

These two photos shows the first one; N8284V at Everett before the expected delivery. I would like to know how many seats were in these birds, and how was the upper deck.

Color photos coming soon...

Wow, thanks for sharing.

Love the classic 747s. Odd how they chose to address the cheatline at the nose tho

I always asked myself, why not have continued the green and red cheatlines to the nose without black point? the aircraft would have a better look I think!

heres the first very nice photo in color, showing the first one N8284V on ground at Everett. we can see the second one, N8285V in the background.

Thank you very mauch for those rare shots. I only have have one picture showing both stored without titles.
Btw, one year later the airline leased an Avianca 747-100.

The nose treatment is indeed very odd. But on their 737s it looked odd as well, as the cheatline ended in a black ring.

Amazing pictures.

The other oddity is the way the red cheatline curves upward, and covers just the forward tip of the tail..

On the last picture, the second AH 747 is just in front, on the other side of the factory.

I´m sorry, I have no information about this.

Interesting about these planes is that they were 2 years old when painted in Air Algerie colours, and 4 resp. 3 1/2 years old when they finally flew their first airline service. Both were retired towards the end of 2003. N8284V carried full Braniff colours when stored in 1980 (intended reg. N605BN), don´t know about the other which should have become N607BN. Two more Braniff 742s ordered were not built.

I remember being at DUB in the 1980's and seeing an Aer Lingus B747-100 departing to begin a lease to Air Algerie (with a spare engine on the wing). No pics, but the memory is vivid as it was my only time seeing a 747 with 5 engines.

Are you uploading these photos (also the Libyan photos) to the A.Net photo database? I don't see them there. They will be hard to find in future if they only appear in forum replies.
