USAirways Express/Republic's E170s

Sat Nov 26, 2011 1:43 am

What does the future hold for the E170s in the Republic Airways fleet on the US Airways Express side of the operation? I know Republic has taken on alot of E175s and the original Mid Atlantic E170s that Republic acquired are still wearing the dark/navy blue colors. I also was only able to spot two 170s at PHL recently while all the other E-jets were 175s and the mainline 190s. Are they going to be replaced for 175s? Just curious.

They are being reconfigured for First class. Apparently the 175s were an easy change. The 170s will take longer. I dont remember the exact cause for the longer time. I know they were repoing the planes out of JAX (the shop is somewhere in the southeast US).

Hope this helps.

All E170's and 175's have been converted to F/Y cabins. The 170 is 9/60 and the 175 is 8/72. The 170's are not going anywhere anytime soon. They are only about 7 years ols at max.

I've not heard that and don't why that would be true. It's EXACTLY the same cabin structure.

Did they redo the seats in Y as well? I haven't been on the 170 since refurb, only the 175, so I'm not sure if the 170s retain their original gray seats.

Nope. Same old gray seats in Y with the new blue F seats up front. Looks a bit tacky to be honest and a bit cheap too. The 170s interiors and their gray seats don't seem to have aged well. A few look pretty ratty with peeling leather and scuffed up walls and jacked up seat pockets.

Sure about that? see... http://www.skyworld.co.uk/Portals/0/...9.pdf

Republic back in 2003 began operated 28 E170s and 30 E175s around 2006. When Republic needed the E170s for Midwest/Frontier back in 2007/2008, they yanked 8 of them from US and increased the 175 fleet to 38. Republic has since decided that the E170 is not the aircraft for F9, and most have been placed with either DL or UA. There are still 2 or 3 left in the F9 branded ops. I imagine the one for sale is one of those.

No they're not.

N806MD and N821MD are in Republic Airways colors and N826MD is in Midwest Airlines colors.

They were all pulled from the US Airways Express fleet in 2007 when the F9 operation first started. Two became cross-code spares and one was dedicated to the YX operation in 2008.

Could it be at VQQ? I believe that Embraer has a facility there.

All of the First Class installations have been done and are being done in DHN

And JAX is the closest repositioning site? Why not repo out of PNS or BHM or HSV?

Jacksonville is a manufacturing facility, not a maintenance facility..and I don't think it's fully operational yet.

Because there is a lot of stuff that needs to be done before the aircraft can fly the line. It needs to go back to a maintenance base and get all that addressed.

That explains why all the ferry flights HSV-DHN-HSV several weeks back.We have an overnight from DCA and that aircraft would leave for DHN and another would return for the early DCA flight.

I can confirm 826 is still here in YX colors. It's sitting on our ramp as a RON tonight.

Lavatories and Closets are the difference I was told. This was from a crew planner not a mx person. I swear nothing can be said in here. I was up at RAH HQ when they first started doing the repos. they were JAX only to start. Sorry for the misinformation.

The US 170's are still in the nsaty old interior. F is the same interior as the 175/90. Hoping for repint and updating of the cabins during heavy checks coming up.

Last I heard the plan was to replace the Y interior during painting which is happening during heavy check. Here is the last statement I could find about airplanes in the Old Colors from AboutUS:

Q. Are we ever going to have our entire fleet painted in the new livery?
A. It’s taken longer than we would have liked for several reasons, including that during the financial/Wall Street crisis, we made a decision to keep airplanes in the air and flying as much as we could for economic reasons as opposed to taking them into the paint shop to complete the livery project. Aaron Ruhl, director, Strategic Planning gave us an update saying, “We have just finished painting the last two A320s into the new livery. Our plan this fall is to paint the remaining A319s and A321s starting mid-August and finishing by the end of November. We have 12 A319s and 11 A321s left to paint.” Of the 303 US Airways Express aircraft in service, we have 30 that are still painted in the old livery,” Dion Flannery, vice president, US Airways and president, US Airways Express added. “Of those 30, 16 are Republic E170s that are expected to be completed by year end 2012. The remaining 14 aircraft are Piedmont Dash 8. We are reviewing plans to complete those as soon as 2012.

As far as I know our planes (RW) are painted in house as well as the heavy checks. So US would not be the ones repainting and checking them.
