SAS To Install New Short-haul Seats

Sun Dec 04, 2011 9:44 am

SAS orders new short-haul seats

Scandinavian Airlines has ordered new seats for its shorth-haul fleet. The next generation seats from Recaro offer improved comfort for customers, who get additional leg room, whilst the lightweight seats weigh less and are thereby better for the environment (360 kg less weight pr. aircraft ). During 2012, eight Boeing 737-800 aircraft will be refitted with the new seats, a total of 1484 seats, and SAS thereafter plans to install the seats on further aircraft the following year.

So are they replacing the 3 year old "new" seats or are this just the replacement for the old seats??

A great decision by SK! Can't say that I like the seats they have today as I find the lumbar support to be in the wrong place.

IMO the best seats for SK would be to have the same seats as LH has.

These look like the Recaro seats LH has installed as the NEK seats. They are super-thin and have had mixed reviews, I've not had a chance to try them yet, so can't say. I presume these will only be on the A32x and 737 fleets, as the MD-80 are going to the desert. Shame, because the seats on those aircraft were very comfortable.

YES!

Take the seats from the MD80's. They might be stained, but they sure are comfortable!

Looks similar what AY has, some complain they are too hard but been ok with me. The good thing is the reading materials are situated up behind the tray, gives more room for knees.

There are two flavors of these seats. I have experienced them regularly on Air France (lightest, worst version) and Lufthansa (better but the back doesn't go high enough so they are really uncomfortable to rest your head).

Either way, IMO, they are *not* an improvement.

I actually find this kind of seat to be very comfortable for a short haul flight, so long as they recline enough. The problem is when they start using them on flights >2 hours.

Somewhat unrelated, but still pertinent: Do airlines have Economy class seats from, say, Brand X and Business class seats from Brand Y?

They may, though they are usually the exact same seats on intra-European routes.
