Apparently a Cessna 412 experienced engine trouble and crashed while circling back to land. RIP to the victims and best wishes to their families.

I'm new to the FSD area. What part of the airport did this all happen?

Just west of the Airport, near Westport Avenue & Benson Road. Thoughts and prayers go out to all of the families, apparently they were known very well locally. One was a College Professor at Augustana. Here's a detailed report from the ArgusLeader. Some of the eyewitnesses say the plane went head first into the ground:

"The pilot tried returning to the airport after encountering a problem with the twin-engine Cessna 421C, but the plane spiraled to the ground in an open field one-quarter mile from Joe Foss Field at 2:24 p.m." - Argus Leader

Having trouble with both engines?
Fuel problem perhaps?

Terribly sad. I don't recognize the names of the men who died, but my thoughts and prayers are with their families.
This is my signature until I think of a better one.
