Too bad really. Now all my hope is on VS.

Are they still getting the A380?

I concur about the scheme though. The vast expanse of white in the BA scheme does the 380 no favours at all.

Koreans paint job suits it the best so far I feel, looks superb.

Rumours to the contrary have been circulating for as long as the order is on the books. But Branson is far too flashy a person to cancel this order. It has prestige, it gets people talking and it's currently the most eco-friendly jet out there. I don't know anything about VS's finances, but I don't see why they shouldn't be able to operate them into MCO, MIA, JFK, SFO, HKG, JNB profitably.

According to wikipedia they are still on order. I can't wait to see the scheme in VS!

As far as BA, it says that they aren't getting it until 2013, right?

I guess a lot can happen between now and then for them to decide on where they will fly it, but all my chips are on HKG. As for intraEurope training I if it is between LHR and MAD or LHR and CDG, when will they announce it? When did AF announce and put CDG-LHR on sale? I want to grab a seat on this one as I missed out on AF last time!

I agree, BA needs something a bit more "Out there" in their livery.
Korean and Singapore are the best in my opinion

This is accurate. Customers do not like the large 'dormitory' Club World cabins found on the 777s so the decision was made to split Club across both decks

If they're using the existing Club World product then splitting it between the two decks is going to cause some major product inconsistencies. They can't fit 2-4-2 upstairs, so will have to go with a very spacious 2-2-2 (unless they can fit 2-3-2 in some way?), but downstairs will end up feeling very similar to the 744's with wider aisles (nowhere near as spacious as upstairs). It's not that hard to install a bulkhead with a closet, or some bathrooms, halfway along the main upstairs cabin if they want to split things up, rather than creating a confusing and haphazard split config.

2-3-2 upstairs with a single aft facing seat in the centre. Same as 787.

The Club Cabin is split on 747s across decks and doesn't cause a "confusing" or "haphazard" config. The seat is the same regardless of how they are laid out.

The problem with 2-3-2 is that it doesn't work with the ying-yang layout. Where does the TV screen, tray table etc for the aisle seat in the pair get stored?

Also, having a single cabin class split logically across two levels on the 744's is very different to having F/J/Y downstairs and J/W/Y upstairs on an A380.

I think the first part of your post kinda negates the latter. VS is looking to get bought, and Branson's still (mostly) about profit. They'll take the plane they need rather than the plane ANet wants.

Interesting about the reasons for BA splitting the J-class seats across two decks. Do people need to be reminded that they're a class or two ahead of someone else to really appreciate it?  Smile

Well, this IS the layout for the 787. The cabin plan was released internally. The centre seat is aft facing surrounded by the two aisle seats facing forward.

I don't know what you are getting at with the screen/table thing? The only difference is that there will be one centre seat, not two. No issues at all.

speedmarque is right

2-3-2 for the Club on the upper deck.

Slight drift but does anyone know what Club seats they're sticking into the revamped 767 interiors?

Sorry -- I misread, thought you meant a group of three in the centre with a pair facing the same way on one side, then a single seat on the other aisle. I guess it will work fine -- I personally wouldn't want to have that seat right in the middle though, and it's not great for couples who want to sit next to each other.

I am lead to believe this is not the case. The CW seats on the LCY A318's face forwards in pairs. The new 767 CW seats will face forwards and backwards in pairs, as they do now, so I don't think they can be the same seats as on the A318's. They will be similar to the current 767 CW seats but revamped and refreshed, as the 767 cabin dimension doesn't allow the same seat carcass as on the 744/777 to be used. That's my understanding from those in the know.

As for the A380, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, and Los Angeles are the first long term routes planned, although the first few months could see more unusual sectors flown to increase operational experience. Philadelphia was one of the early training routes for the introduction of the 744's, although PHL looks set this time to see the BA 787's very early on, rather than the A380's.

It's common knowledge across the whole airline which routes are going to the new aircraft. So pilots know what they are bidding for initially if they apply for transfers to the new types they have been told:

A380- LAX,JNB.HKG

B787- ACC

If US and AA merge, and the group stay in OneWorld, do you think we might see it through PHX, PHL or DFW for the additional feed from the stronger relationship?

Thanks Speedmarque, another very slight thread drift

The BA 767 refits, I've heard the Rockwell Collins AVOD is going but the replacement IFE won't be Thales Top Series like the 777-300. Any idea what it's going to be? Good move putting the 318 seats on them, they are superb.

That's a shame, I think the 767 small fwd cabin would suit the A318 seats well.

I strongly believe that their first couple of A380 will fly initially to HKG, SIN, JNB or LAX.
Some flights to JFK, DXB and BOS may happen while there is only one frame on the fleet as it only needs a single plane for rotation, and also work as advertisement and presentation of the aircraft on these cities.

Yeah the 767s will get Boeing updated Signature interior refit, and the current seats will get refurbished completely, but wont be new fit as such.

Do not be surprised if Lagos (LOS) is an initial BA A380 destination. All it needs is some minor upgrade to BA's aviobridge at Lagos and wallah! Although Lagos is a business and VFR destination, the load factors are amongst the highest in the world for BA.

Yet out of these three, which gets served with the first BA A380? I personally hope LHR-HKG, what with QF dropping the route completely, yet will start an A380 from down-under to HKG (finally!) in Jan 2012...

As do I. Run training flights with the first frame, then go daily on BA25 after the second arrives. That way you have double daily LHR-HKG with brand new planes/product (BA27 being a 77W), plus the 3 weekly 772.
