New AA Biz Class On The 773

Here it is

American Airlines picks Cathay's business class for new planes

The only bad thing it seems is if you are traveling with someone and might be hard to have a conversation.

We are talking now 4 across instead of 7 on the current 772. Being angled, could it possibly be that they can fit an extra row of seats?

That is a significant upgrade from what they rolled out on their 767 fleet a few years back. Combined with their new Flagship Suite in First, AA looks to be offering a solid premium cabin experience from a hard-product aspect (on the 77W, at least).

15.9 in screens. It will be nice. I wonder if they will update the current 772 and 763? I doubt they will.

They're the same seats, but may be the other manufacturer. Also the same seats Cathay and Delta's 747s are getting.

Solid? If they implement these products fleet wide, they will have the best combination of first and business products in the US.

I am happy that they did not go the cheap route (see Delta) with the detailing on the shell. This shell is more Cathay-like with the wings at the headrest and the metal trim.

It also seems that AA will be moving away from interior schemes based on the color blue. I like the grey, brown tones.

No. They are forward facing and angled towards the window, which alleviates one of the chief complaints about herringbone seating. Of course, that's on flights where there is usually nothing to see for 98% of the flight anyway, but I still like these better.

Yes, just as cheaply detailed as Delta's seat. Well, at least, US Airways has the faux-wood on the ledge.

SO HAPPY they kept the swivel seats and pretty much the same F product that they already had which is pretty awesome IMHO though incredibly worn and shabby.

i tried searching but couldnt tell when the 773 deliveries are supposed to be taking place beyond the initial one. anyone? thanks!

Potentially, but i figure that drops the J seats to at least 24 from 30, in the same space. Doesn't seem like a very efficient option on the 767. I could be wrong.

New interiors combined with old, sour, ancient DFW senior snappy cabin crews, pity!  . AA needs NEW blood and offer an incentive for senior Flight Attendants to retire (like UAL new agreement). I can only imagine AA Flight Attendants dealing w/the premium open bar!!!! LOL. . AA's management out of touch w/reality never ceases to amaze me!

So, Cathay Pacific rolls out it's new 777 Business product and gets loads of praise from all over. Now, a little over a year later, AA plans to use the same EXACT product and then it's suggested that it's similar to Envoy and Business Elite.

I would think Weber would be more likely than Sicma, considering the Y seats are Weber 5751s. Sicma mostly deals with the European market while Weber deals more with the U.S. market. When US Airways ordered theirs, the Sicma version was the only version available. DL is installing the Weber version on their 744s, which should be in service shortly.

All three seats are technically the same . Originally, I think it was a design by Sicma. Weber may also now produce a version of the seat under license. Both are subsidiaries of Zodiac Aerospace.

Whatever the case, Delta's is the cheapest version of the seat. Very plastic looking, blue/white color scheme, almost no customization, basic shell.

USAirways seat is only slightly better if you count the faux wood embellishments.

Cathay's seat is the best of the lot. It has the best shell design of the previous two, allowing for a little compartment on the upper part of the seat for headphone storage and a mirror. It has more interesting finishes and the wingback detail for enhanced privacy from the aisle.

AA's seat is almost identical to Cathay's seat, though AA hasn't made mention yet of the compartment in the upper part of the seat. It is there because they went with the Cathay shell design, but they haven't stated whether it will have any function. AA has mentioned that their seat will have a feature that Cathay's seat does not have --- an electronically adjustable headrest.

They are a true pleasure, indeed. I've flown on quite a few premium flights ex: DFW recently, and they crews have all been absolutely outstanding. I mean really memorable. I've never had a bad flight up front with AA, so I'm still not sure where all these complaints are coming from. They are older, sure, but they are really friendly and professional.

Cheers,

Just recently went FRA-DFW with AA in coach. As a nonrev, I really like to watch how the FAs interact with passengers, and I must say even though our crew was very high in seniority, they were very friendly, accommodating, and professional to all of the passengers. Must say I've only seen good things from these DFW flight crew.

I've only had great experiences in the premium cabin with AA crews. Most of them senior. So not sure which "snappy" cabin crews you are referring to. I can't say the same about UA.

Looks like a big improvement over the wretched "sleep on the floor/climb over your neighbor'" J seats that AA was so proud of just a couple of years ago. As far as the FA's go, I recently flew in F on the JFK-EZE run with a NY-based crew that was excellent. I also find the DFW crews pretty good but the ORD-based crews are a gang of bitter old bags for sure. I've seen them deny passengers in F a cocktail pre-flight saying "It is against the law to serve liquor on the ground,"(BS), one Purser screamed..literally..at pax on a 767 for crossing the aisle in the J cabin during boarding, among other things.

Not sure where the "tires and worn" is. Just flew MIA-CDG 763 and LHR-MIA772 the foward-most cabins and both were clean, well maintained, had good food and service from the 3G's, and from what I heard from other PAX they were pleased w/ the flights as well.

Not sure if the laws in Texas prohibit alcohol sevice on the ground (on Sun. or before noon etc...). Blue laws I think.

I am SOOOOOO pleased that the winow seats actuall face the window in J. I must be quite hard on DL or CX to look out.

I'm very impressed with the new F and J seats. Once these are in service AA will by far have the best international product in the USA. I fly a lot, including several Asian and Middle East carriers, often, and while AA may not be on par with the likes of EK, QR or SQ, AA is our best option when it comes to a domestic option here in the USA.

The problem is that the UA J class is much more "packed in" than what AA is now launching. UA is 8 across (!!!) in J on the 777 and 6 across in the 767.

I agree that the darker interior scheme on UA is nice, but not nearly as roomy as what AA is proposing. Not to mention that UA's seats require hopping over people if you have a window (or middle section on the 777/747).
