Interesting, not sure I would say I am impressed though!

The seat looks similar to the QF one but with less pitch, I must confess I don't like the footrest being mounted on the seat in front, I'd rather it properly support my legs. In that regard the publicity photos are rather deceptive, it is only the bulkhead seats that have a proper footrest.

I don't like the fully pre-set meal tray either, a proper domestic/regional meal service concept would be better. Still if the price is right!!

I wonder if they are planning an upgrade to their regional J product now, as these seats are very close to their regional seats. Perhaps something in-line with the SQ regional product?

Which airline is generally considered to have the best premium economy product? QF, NZ, VA, VS? Has a general consensus been reached?

If I would fly on cx's premium eco I would definitely want to be on the first row... so as others I suppose.... The new economy seat looks great and now I think its looks comfy too... the old one looks great too but it really felt bad.. it was atrocious to your back and the whole experience as well.!!

That was my first thought as well. I actually like the QF Y+ seat (even if it isn't as imaginative as, say, NZ) but this one does look more cramped. It could just be the picture though. Does anyone know the seat pitch for CX Y+?

I agree. Unfortunately the seat was the only downside to my recent flight with CX (my first) and was what would put me off flying them in future. As a concept the "shell seat" was a good idea, it just didn't really work in practice.

Not really. In terms of hard product I think most would agree that NZ is ahead. Soft product? Open to debate. For example QF's soft product in Y+ is fantastic, they basically took their domestic business class product and grafted it on (with some changes). BA's soft product is supposed to be inferior to that of QF's, even after the recent upgrades.

NZs new Prem Y is handsdown the best. Best seat, business class meals/wines etc, great IFE.
Their old one however had a poor hardproduct but good soft product.
QF strikes a good balance between economy and business although the price is up there.

Yea, after the long-haul fleet is set, next would be the regional products. It was clearly noted by the Head of Product that they will do it progressively rather than one-off introduction of new products to all classes and fleets.

Looks pretty ordinary to me, and the color of the Y seats is oddly repulsive at least based on that pic.

The lack of legrests in Y+ (other than in the first row) is particularly disappointing.

It can't possibly be 32" in Y+. The only airlines that consider anything to be "premium" about that kind of pitch are maybe some European charter airlines or something.

Doesn't sound right. With that seat pitch and the footrest raised.... I d feel bad for the person sitting in front.

I imagine it would be closer to the 36-38 mark used by VS etc

Is this an 8 abreast 77W? Ths reminds me of the premium economy Thai and Singapore had on their 7 abreast A340-500's for BKK/LAX and SIN/EWR. Both I think the longest flights ever.

I liked it BTW, thought it worked well and should have a market. The way Thai and Sin priced it was attactive too, just a mere $300 more per RT, which I thought was great. What is CX's price differential?

I think 42" was the old Singapore and Thai Premium Econ with 122 degress of recline (Thai since stopped the route and SIN went all C/L). But those two, which seemed to share the same seat, didn't have as good IFE as the CX solution and The Thai SIN config had NO FOOTREST, if you can believe that. 18 hours with your feet dangling is a stretch. I used pillows.

In premium economy, yes. Same as nearly every airline I can think of that has a proper premium economy cabin (as opposed to an "extra legroom" section like UA, DL, KL, etc.) on a 777. There are some exceptions -- NZ is either 9-abreast (old - 772ER) or 6-abreast (new - 77W), TK is 7-abreast -- but most are 8-abreast. That includes BA, AF, JL, NH (being phased out), VA, BR...

CLUE: It's not Qantas......


It's got to be Air New Zealand, hasn't it? Especially as there is business class catering and wine.

I've already posted my views in the older thread... In a nutshell, it's nice to have it there, but most other products will outclass it from where I'm sitting. The onus is now on the staff to make this a strong product, if they aren't top notch then it's going to suffer IMO.

Beyond the seat (which isn't uncomfortable and is basically the same as every other airline except NZ) QF have a really decent soft product.

I agree the execution of the fixed shell seats could've been better, but I honestly prefer the old fixed shell concept. It was terrific in that nobody could recline their seat into my space. The space I have would be entirely dependent on whether I choose to "recline" or not. That's the way it should be, in my view. Going back to the traditional reclining economy seats is a step backwards, in my view.

Really? First of all, there's no footrest of any kind just a small beanbag. Second of all, the seats are a fixed shell seat so the seat cushions slide forward when you "recline" creating the same problem CX's Y fixed shell seats have. Third, the picture you posted of NZ's Premium Economy is very deceiving since only the bulkhead seats have more space.

I haven't flown NZ's Premium Economy but looking at a review of it (http://www.ausbt.com.au/air-new-zealand-s-spaceseats-brand-new-premium-economy-on-the-777-300er) you can clearly see that the only "nice" thing about it is the way it looks.

Having flown both, I think TG's product ran circles around SQ's. Catering was better on TG (but this is generally true between the two airlines I feel) - but TG served three full meals on the flight, versus SQ which served two and had really small cookies and chips available in between. TG's meal service had real linens on the tray and cloth napkins with nicer cutlery (though I think there was only one extra option for Y+ versus Y) and the seat pitch was way better - I think it was 42 on TG versus 38 on SQ. TG's Y on their A345 was in fact 36 to begin with I believe. SQ's meal service was pretty much identical to their Y catering. I think the only difference was maybe they had some cheap champagne available - though Im not so sure about this.
