I had the similar problem when booking with Lufthansa back in 2009, couldn't enter my Miles&Smiles info, while other FFP were available. Just registered my FF info during baggage drop-off (I had checked in online). TK should indeed make things easier for *A frequent flyers, just like LH does.

I'm trying to book JFK - IST on TK in march and I want to get the miles with UA MileagePlus and I have a connecting flight on US which let me enter my FF info when booking, however on TK you can only enter your Miles&Smiles. How do I get the miles for the travel? Do I have to call TK or do I need to give my MileagePlus info at check in at JFK?

I just called up TK and added my Mileage Plus number. Surprisingly, I only got miles for the JFK-IST-JFK sector and not the IST-DAC-IST sector. I tried requesting on the UAL website, it didn't work. Then I called Mileage Plus and complained - and then it worked. I guess ALL airlines could make it easier for pax to get FF benefits ...

AnadoluJet has revised its summer schedule and as it seems ESB FRA is suspended. This should be because of LH introducing daily FRA ESB FRA on March 25, 2012.

Also ESB CPH and ESB DUS seems to be discontinued according to TK website.

The following routes will be reinstated as of March 25, 2012
ESB STN (Thrice weekly until June Ist and then 4 times weekly)
ESB AMS and ESB BRU (From June 1st 5 times weekly)
ESB Cologne, Stockholm to operate 2 and 5 times per week respectively as of June 10th.

ESB Moscow will continue as a daily flght
ESB IKA increases from 3 weekly to 5 weekly
ESB VIE increases from twice weekly to 6 weekly from June 1st.

ESB ECN, ESB Batumi and ESB Nakhcivan continues more or less at the same frequency.

In addition to AnadoluJet, TK will operate twice weekly ESB MUC and ESB Berlin with its own metal in the summer schedule.

No new services are yet reported for ESB but Libyan Airlines seems to be operating flights from Tripoli but I could not get a schedule as of yet.

The other scheduled operators continue AZAL (increase from 2 to 4 times per week), ARIANA AFGHAN (one weekly), LUFTHANSA (2 x MUC and 1 x FRA daily), QATAR (1 x daily),

Pegasus continues with same destinations as in winter schedule

The following markets lack service still;

ESB LHR (likely by BD or BA), ESB CDG (by AF or TK), ESB DXB (by Anadolujet), ESB CAI (by AnadoluJet), ESB FCO (by AZ add on to FCO TEHRAN), ESB CPH (by SK), ESB JFK (by TK direct service or DL add on to JFK IST flight), AMMAN (by RJ), Baghdad (by AnadoluJet), ESB AMS by KLM

Some family members arrived on TK11 last night.
Mid flight there was a man smoking in the lav. The smoke alarm came on, FA's came and argued with the man, but nothing happened at the end. I thought there was a big penalty.

And TAV sells 38% stake to AdP. Will this change plans to expand IST and speed plans for a new airport, given our warm relations with the French?

Doesn't TAV also operate the airport in Skopje? AdP is certainly expanding in the Balkans, first they get the tender to build the new terminal in Zagreb and now this..

Had a bad experience with TK last night on my flight from AYT to IST. Upon landing, the plane parked into International terminal, and we went onto the bus to be transferred to the domestic terminal under heavy rain. I went to the baggage claim area and waited 50 mins for the baggage to arrive, with no word or clue from TK about when the luggage will arrive. Just empty waiting. When the baggage came, of course they were soaking wet, from waiting under the rain for 50 minutes. 4 star airline, yeah right!

I was reading an interview with T.K. and come across this question/answer:

Quote:

So, this means TK will wait another 2 years before placing an A380/747-8I or A350/787 order?

The F/As are scared that they will lose their jobs. You don't know who you are dealing with, and the CA doesn't have a much authority to enforce the non-smoking laws when the flight crew smoke themselves.. If I were you I'd contact the local FAA office and have them investigate the incident.

Good thing on paper it's cheaper to give the ground handling to TGS. Remember , that's the company that gets your luggage off the plane , not THY itself.. The workers are underpaid, more importantly under educated/trained , and they are way cheaper than the Turkish employees.. The good old saying 'you get what you pay for' applies in this case as well.

I also arrived at IST last night - delayed, crammed in a bus and with wet bags. TK really need to work on the quality of their communications, right from their website to keeping passengers informed about disruption. But to be fair on TK, most of this chaos is down to the growing multitude of bottlenecks at IST. It seems to me the lack of capacity in terms of gates, apron space and operational runways is a more chronic than in ground services and baggage handling. But it all has a huge impact on the TK 'passenger experience' and TK's own finances. I heard Hamdi Topcu say that the increased holding times was costing them $100 million a year in extra fuel alone. Who knows what the cost of missed connections and crew time comes to. And with TK and lots of others adding more services from IST, I'm not looking forward to the rest of this year - especially on days we get a bit of snow or even just a southerly wind.

In the meantime I like the quite radical proposal to expand IST with a fourth runway to the east of the current terminal. I'm also encouraged that the Transport Ministry seems at last to appreciate the urgency of the situation. But all this is going take years to come about. What's TK going to do over the next five years?

And in contrast to IST I'm struck by the acres of gleaming spare capacity in the new terminals at ESB and ADB. Is there really no economic case for TK shifting some of their business to outside Istanbul?

In the interview of haberturk, TK opts to split its fleet into two hubs if there is really no other option left. If there was an option to link IST with SAW, Turkish could split its network between these two airports, just like they do in Seoul.

Do not wait for wide body order before 2013 September. I think, they are waiting for the IOC meeting in Buenos Aires in September 2013. Election of the host city of 2020 Summer Olympics. TK board members think that Istanbul is a strong candidate for 2020 Summer Olympics and they plan wide body orders based on Olympic games host city election.
Similar to SU and QR wide body orders after Russia and Qatar are elected for 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup.

This could be possible as an interim solution til the 3rd airport opens (earliest 10 years). If SAW gets underground connection, it could be directly linked to IST through the new tunnel which is supposed to be opened end 2013. To make the way shorter, a 1-2km line to link IST with the banliyo line could be added. How long would it take? 40minutes ?

Any plan for TK to get more 773s? I just got hooked with Comfort Class (comparatively low prices + great product) and they can definitely use a few more 773s, even A380s. I believe VLA requirement is about 6, which sounds right. 4 dailies to 2 Asian and 2 cities in Western Hemisphere.

I doubt they can serve SYD with current 773s they have, 13 to be exact.

I'm not surprised by this at all. Unfortunately, I have also witnessed instances where crew or their family were given priority over the passenger. I really want to see TK among the best and therefore will not hesitate to speak out where they fail. A more customer oriented mindset is needed at TK if they want to become a 5-Star airline.

On a different note, IST and SAW have now both centralized security (Open Gate) and transit pax at IST will go through security before reaching the departure level.

That's pathetic.. If I wasn't trying to fly IST-ESB I would have taken Atlas or cross over to the asian side and take Pegasus but this is a monopoly that is not being let go by the government. This is a four star airline , how? They need to switch to a better processor than IsBank..

The whole TK website facelift process has turned out to be a big disappointment; a pig with make-up is still a pig and TK's website is definitely a pig in terms of functionality, practicality and design. I was hoping for a shake up of their Frequent Flyer program as well but it seems the only change they have come up with is a new design for their membership cards. It is interesting and frustrating to see how some aspects of TK resemble a typical public/state enterprise while other parts of the business are dynamic and entrepreneurial.

The plan is to lease out AJA's planes to XQ and then wet lease it back to AJA. All current employees will return to TK, while XQ will hire new cabin and cockpit crew for AJA operations. All AJA planes will be re-registered as XQ planes. The first one is already re-registered: TC-JKF -> TC-SAC. (source in Turkish: http://www.airporthaber.com/dev-birlesmenin-amaci-ne--38754h.html)

This move will allow to reduce costs at AJA operations, but the question is, what will TK do with it, will it lead to lower fares or increased profits for TK?

For the time being, all it will do is help reduce losses, I believe. TK domestic, as well as AJet with its similar cost structure, are loss making entities. With this move, maybe this can change. I don't expect falling ticket prices with ever increasing oil prices.

TK is starting thrice weekly non-stop service between Ankara and Baghdad. This flight continues onward to IST from ESB and vice versa.

TK is also starting 4 times weekly non-stop service between Antalya and Erbil. This flight continues onward to IST from AYT and vice versa.

TK did not commence Ankara Erbil as the route is already flown by Pegasus and CAA turned down earlier TK who wanted to opearte the route by AnadoluJet.

I hope we see more TK flights out of ESB to international desitnations.

Sorry for the delay.
Maho is definitely lot more fun than expected. There must have been 400 people at the beach. The bar has a great Steel Drum band with Caribbean tunes between the landings. Also the radio conversations are broadcasted. Food is the usual bar fare; burgers, chicken wings, fish and chips. Very friendly servers and also there is a souvenir shop with t-shirts and other things, expensive.
The beach itself pretty nice, no shade but few umbrellas and chairs to rent. Calm nice beach for swimming while plane spotting. There are Dolmus back to city center for $7.

I am sure you have seen a bunch of photos, but here is one from me. The big arrival of the day at 14:08, AF 340.

Looks awesome

CAPA has published an analysis on Pegasus. Here I was able to see Pegasus figures for the first time in fact... 171000 weekly seats domestic, 91000 weekly seats international. Comes around to 13.6m seats annually. I would've loved to see their ASK / RPK figures, but hey, we will have to wait until they go public I guess...

Here's the report:

Funny to see they mentioned only SunExpress Germany's seats on international flights. Anyone know how many seats SunExpress has on international flights?

I guess for some reason they considered XQ a full-service carrier a la TK, and they discluded them from the list, just like they did with 8Q. I don't blame them, the line between full-service and LCC in Turkey is somewhat blurry!
