787 Arrives At Toronto (with Pics)

I though I share couple pictures of the B787 arriving in CYYZ with you everyone here and those who couldn't make it there. I am also currently uploading video of the landing on youtube but it is taking it is time so I will post it later.
I hope you like the pics. Weather was not that great.

Many airports have tractors. Grass mowing, snow removal, they can have multiple uses in airports....

There were tractors, trucks, pickups, tugs and every other manner of vehicles lined up to see it land. By the number of spotters too I would think a few people might have called in sick. There was a news copter up to film the landing and it was positioned so it would have seen the water cannon salute. The grey skies made it hard to get the right exposure for pics.

It is here as a part of the AC Anniversary celebrations. There is an open house for AC employees, one for Boeing employees and suppliers, and an invite only for VIP and Super Elite Aeroplan members. It leaves from Toronto on Sunday and flies to Boston to support the JAL service from there to Narita.

The aircraft was towed into Hangar 9 after post flight work. The invitation states Hangar 8 but that might just be the entry point since Hangar 9 doesn't butt against public access. Unfortunately even if the door is open Hangar 9 is the least visible.

@bos2laf: Not sure either, I for one have always had a fantastic experience flying aboard AC, regardless of the routing. They've got a nice product going on as of late and I've found no reason at all to complain.

I don't think they have officially announced anything. My guess is they'll re-start their Indian routes, and possibly develop a greater presence in South America.

I doubt it. The 787s are more of a 333 replacement, so I don't think the 777 on that route is going anywhere.

I have a feeling that once AC get their 787 sometimes next year, they will fly it within Canadian routes before they go international with it. Eg: CYYZ to CYVR or maybe fly it to every major city in Canada and I am sure the likes of KJFK and so will see it too.

Intially they will be in routes from YYZ/YUL to YYC/YEG/YVR/lax. After that you'll see them on western Canada to Europe flights and some Asia routes.

Just what I've heard.

The 787 will sub in on some premium Europe routes, will open up new China and Pacific routes, and additional South America routes. Loooooong way down the road you might see India restarted but as discussed recently to death, India at the moment is low end priced travel with insufficient J Class and not enough high value cargo. If perishables and high value electronics start to flow then things will change.

I remember AC saying that it is looking at the 787-9 to replace the A333s, any word if a final decision has been made about the order breakdown?

The article sheds some light on some possible destinations for AC's 787s.

There were Elites and Super Elites there also by invitation only. Also the aircraft was there as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations for employees. Employees of some parts suppliers were also invited.

They did. Or do you mean *all* of the flying public?

If the latter, it's not really up to Boeing...when you visit a customer you do whatever the customer wants to do with it.

I've only flown twice on AC and both flights were very good experiences....couldn't find any faults at all.....

Yes it will fly as BOE787 and it will be filed on FlightAware. What advance notice for the flight plan being filed I am not sure. You will at least have an hour advance notice or so.

Departure was remarkably quiet. I was almost directly behind the plane and the Hybrid bus traveling on the road behind me was much much louder than the 787. With such a light load and the short hop to BOS, the throttles probably weren't to the wall. Still impressive.

I heard that ATC exchange, too. But not a slight at Toronto; there was a big gathering of people down here at Boston waiting for the plane to be brought into the DL hangar where a presentation would be made among Massachusetts, Boeing, and Japan Air Lines personnel. If not for this need for choreography, they probably would have done the fly-by up there at YYZ.

I was at the airport at 530 in the morning and saw it sitting in front of AC hanger. we were hopping for deicing since it was sitting outside the from the day before but she just went for runway 23. I heard the ATC request for flyby, it would have been nice but I can't blame the pilot for saying no. They needed the plane to be on time.

I soo agree with you on this. I was waiting for the loud noise engines makes when they start rolling but with the 787, nothing. All we saw was it moving. Gotta love the wing flex on take off too.

I'd agree with Longhauler that initially AC will operate the 787 on a bunch of Rapidair rotations and also national services like YYZ-YYC/YEG/YVR to a) iron out any teething troubles, as all new a/c have, and b) give the cockpit crews lots of t/o & landing experience.

First deliveries are now targeted for 1Q 2014, with seven a/c to be delivered in 2014 - although many are dubious that Boeing can deliver on the build rate advertised.

I was there as well, and I was absolutely floored at how silent it was, regardless of how much throttle (or lack thereof). Very impressive.
