Alitalia Finally Introduce A Retro Livery

Fri Mar 30, 2012 1:33 pm

Alitalia has painted one of his A321 (EI-IXI) in a retro livery. Unfortunately I'm not able to post the links to the pictures here but I'm sure you can find them. In my opinion it's a beaytiful bird. The tail looks like the one of a older plane. The only negative part is the registration (nothing personal against Ireland).

Because it's cheaper to register them in Ireland.

It's only that it is such a beautiful plane. It would be perfect with a registration I-XXXX.

Found a pic here:

Definitely very retro looking! I agree about the reg though - be better if it was I-XXXX. Seems like a lot of airlines register their plane in Ireland these days.

Nice looking retrojet indeed, though the belly could be a bit more metallic to catch the spirit of the 60s.

It's funny when you compare all the retro liveries airlines all over the world have re-introduced now that they all look alike as they all have very similar cheatlines and colors. People at the time these liveries were normal might have also complaint about how every airline uses the same type of livery just as how people nowadays complain about the euro-white liveries. I personally like retro liveries so don't get me wrong but I just notice that they are all very similar to each other.

Gee, the current scheme isn't "retro?"

That was hilarious. The "current" livery dates back to 1970 I think, with slight variations. It's retro enough

I agree with the reg thoughts.
Nice livery but unfortunate that the Italian carrier has not used an Italian reg'ed aircraft. This aircraft was previously I-BIXI until Jan 2009.
Not that it matters to any but astute spotters/aerosexuals.

The current livery has been slightly renewed 5-6 years ago but there are still some a/c wearing the old one.

I dont like this ''retro'' livery at all. The current one is far superior. Shame as I have liked most retro jets from EI to AF AY etc...

I though the 'old' Alitalia disappeared when Air One took over a few years ago? How can they use another airlines' livery?

Looks almost as good as it did on the DC-8! Just add another engine outboard on each wing. I agree that the belly would have been better with the polished metalic look, but pictures I've been able to locate from that era indicate that the metalic surface wasn't particulalry polished.

Nice retro livery. Is there a special occasion why this Alitalia retrojet is introduced?

Fantastic! Looks like BA is pretty much the only one left to do a retro livery!

Alitalia has always had a classy, timeless look about them. The mixture of green, red and white has always been a welcome site at any airport. I've always flown AZ whenever I had the chance to do so, and in spite of what used to be lackluster service, I always liked the look of their planes and uniforms.

This tail is just plain gorgeous!

How was Alitalia's service, catering and courteousness back then?
