Hawaiian Airlines A330 Arrives Tonight 5/17 JFK

Thu May 17, 2012 5:48 pm

Hawaiian will be flying their A330 into JFK tonight somewhere around midnight. I believe its gonna be at JFK until Sat leaving at 1800. Finishing touches on the lead in lines and buffer zone lines were done today for its arrival. It will be at gate 9 at T5. Whats odd is that it was coming in from IAH. We don't have cans yet so we were thinking it gonna bring them in maybe from there. Just a wild guess.

Hmmmmmmmm....I wasn't thinking Gate 9 would be the choice. Is that making Gate 8 or 10 not able to be used while the A332 is at Gate 9? At least if Gate 8 is not in use, the entire seating area for Gate 8 & 9 can be used which is 200 seats.

How is the GO handling going to work? Who will be operating the ULD GSE, etc.?

Might be 10 but pretty sure its 9. Right now everyone is getting trained. First batch of full trained crew-members finished up last week. There only doing morning crews since its a morning flight. Jetblue crew will be handling the flight above and below the wing but nobody at least that I've talked to seems to know who gonna cater it. Dollies are here along with two container loaders. Not sure which manufacturer. Rumor has it the dollies are the wrong size. They got the double container dollies which don't fit in the bag room. When they did the run through couple months ago in the bag room the dollies they used were single. You got me on that one. Lav and water trucks arrive soon and someone was telling me today our push backs won't do the job and that one has been ordered.

It's coming from TLS vis AUS. Not IAH. N387HA.

I stand corrected. They said it was brand new so TLS doesn't surprise me but why make a stop in AUS?

One of my buddies down in AUS (with B6) mentioned our CEO was there today, and our COO is going to be there today too....but also made mention that HA is taking delivery of the aircraft in AUS. Not sure why though, or if there is any connection between our top-of-the-ladder crewmembers being there.

Aaaahhhh, gotta love it when everything goes wrong right from the beginning. Kind of like when I was told to set up DFW as an E190 only station, then just happened to notice a week before flights started that the first flight was going to be an A320. Communication....it's a wonderful thing.

Usually delivery is made in a location which is advantageous for tax reasons. I don't believe F9 took delivery of an airplane in DEN, it was usually PHX or MCI with an added flight to bring it into DEN as a revenue flight to get around some fees.

Maybe the double container transporters are for cargo pallets or LD-8 for 767 aircraft if they get any...

No, our fleet doesn't have containers so we had to get everything needed for container usage. I'm sure this was part of the contract.

We were told we would be using pallets for cargo so your probably right however ALL the dollies we got are double so that still leaves the problem of packing containers in the bag room.

It's doubtful the plane went to AUS for tax reasons. Every other 330 has flown directly to HNL or to LAX and then put into service.

I wouldn't be surprised that they got LD-6 dollies thinking that being able to load 2 LD-3s on 1 LD-6 dolly would save on the amount of dollies they would need to purchase, but didn't consider the reduced maneuverability of the longer dolly.

The dollies used for single LD-3/LD-2s tend to have dual axle steering and are very maneuverable, even when pulling 6 of them. LD-6 dollies can have dual axle steering, but you still have reduced maneuverability due to the extra length.

This might be an odd question, but I will ask anyway. Did HA by the equipment for JFK and then turn and lease it to B6 to work on their flight or did B6 buy it themselves?

I'm guessing here and say it was worked out in the contract and HA paid for them considering its only for this one flight.

After doing training on the aircraft today it seems we have both. The LD-6 will be used for cargo so they will never see the bag room. So weird seeing our name on all the equipment. After free packing for almost 10 yrs, this is going to be very refreshing.

On a side note, I went into the cabin. Nothing like that new plane smell. IMO of course, I was not impressed what so ever with their first class product. Looks more of a business class.

Actually, I am pretty sure B6 had to buy all of the ground equipment. I'm assuming they want other partner airlines to use T5 eventually, right? If you look at the photo you took on Reply 15, you can see some of the equipment has JETBLUE emblazoned on it. I would imagine that B6 was out ordering the cargo and loading equipment as soon as the ink was dry on the HA contract!

That could very well be possible as Aer Lingus is a heavy rumor.

Looking at your picture, you have LD-3 dollies and LD-7 pallet dollies, not LD-6 dollies. Double the length of the LD-3 dolly for a LD-6 dolly.

Because it is only sold as first class on dometic routes and I'd say is better than the domestic first class on other U.S. airlines. On international routes, it is sold as business class.

I dropped my parents off at T5 on Tuesday morning and was hanging around at the windows at the end of the concourse (by gate 14) to watch them depart 22R and noticed there was a secondary gate taxi line painted (dotted, not solid, on a diagonal) and was wondering if that was for the A330 because I don't recall seeing it before. Is gate 14 going to be the gate we are going to use for the HA flight moving forward or do we have more than one gate with A330 stop points marked? (Downside of being at the Hangar instead of T5....I don't get to see this stuff very often for myself so I have to rely on kind folks like you to report info back to me LOL!)

There is a picture on the Forum: Why No B6 in HNL? , That picture shows the left wing very close to the yellow line for gate 12 so the diagonal would make sense. But, if this is not the case then they won't be able to use gate 12.

Thanks for pointing me over there, I forgot I replied in that thread too LOL! The pic in question (compliments of Werdywerd, I hope it's okay to repost the pic here) shows the aircraft is at an angle compared to the normal gate 14 line, but I agree, the port wing extends into the gate 12 area which makes me think gate 12 won't be able to be used:

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/5344/94507865.jpg

....and based on the pic in reply 15 from contrails15, it would seem the starboard wingtip is going to extend out pretty far out, like over the T5 service road but not over the airport service road. I'm going to need to make a run to T5 during the week to see the markings for myself LOL!

Gate 14 will be the main gate for the A330. When its on that gate 12 will be inop. Another heavy line is painted for the A330 on gate 9 perhaps as an alternate in case 14 can't be used. The tail almost comes over the T5 service road. You can see by the above pic the tail cone sits right before the forward line of the road and the starboard wingtip isn't over our service road but almost. Its close. They have the aircraft coming in on a slight angle to prevent that. When you see the lines for everything your gonna be like, WTF. LOL Everything so far (knock on wood) seems to be working out. We push it out with our new pushback yesterday but wasn't there for it so no pics.
