Cyyz Runway 23 Shutdown
Runway is now open again but it was shutdown for about 15 mins due to A/C was met by the emergency crew. Aircraft reg# is c-fitw and it was escort of runway. Will post pic and video when I get home.

It appears that it was AC01, it took of on time and return back to CYYZ

Looks like the aircraft dropped some debris on departure.

There is a news report that the flight made an emergency landing
"Police have received reports of debris falling while the plane was in the air, but they have yet to be confirmed. "

Usual media hysteria.
A CP24 reporter keeps showing a piece of debris that apparently fell from the B777. It was "too hot to handle" and "smells like gasoline" according to the reporter. Obviously no specifics yet, but it does kind of sound like a uncontained engine failure.

Well, if they really did put gasoline into the fuel tanks instead of jet fuel, I could see why there was an uncontained failure
At least (hopefully) no one got hurt!!

I haven't seen any images showing the engine case with holes in it. In a contained engine failure, it is normal for pieces of the engine to come out the exhausted end.
Uncontained failures refer to turbines and discs spinning off at high speed and puncturing the case of the engine. They're dangerous because it can damage other systems or rarely enter the cabin. That's what happened to the QF A380.

I just got home from the airport, all the engine was on the plane, the plane taxi to gate by itself. The media always report thins before looking into it.
