Tornado At BWI This Evening (June 1)?

Sat Jun 02, 2012 1:54 am

Just saw this on Storm Prediction Center storm reports:

Quote:
2319 BWI AIRPORT ANNE ARUNDEL MD 3918 7665. TORNADO WAS REPORTED INSIDE THE AIRPORT PERIMETER. TREE DEBRIS FROM THE TORNADO WAS REPORTED BY TOWER PERSONNEL. (LWX)

Anyone else here see it were otherwise stuck at BWI this evening?

Well, it would have been nice if we (folks working at the airport) knew about it. This is the first I am hearing and I just got off shift!

There was a tornado warning issued, but no reports directly to the NWS until after the warning was over:

Pretty shocked that people at the airport didn't know about it. There has been a tornado warning for the greater DC-Balt off and on for half the evening. Rotating cloud near Nationals Park eventually canceled the game.

We have an emergency phone although it is in our back office and we are too short staffed to have someone there at all times. I was wondering why there were a bunch of bag cans blown off the carts though

We got some crazy weather here last night. Haven't seen storms roll through like those in some time. At my house we got 4.5 inches of rain in a couple of hours. As far as a tornado at BWI i don't know that one touched down there. There was certainly high winds but if there was a twister there I think the news would have been on it like crazy.

The tornado warning was wide, extending into south central PA (Lancaster and York counties, 90 minutes from BWI). SOme did hit there.

Did you see my first post? The Control Tower reported it, with debris, and the National Weather Service posted it as a storm report. I suppose tree damange surveys afterwords would confirm. But I am surprised, given the scrutiny of false alarms and all, and here is a warning with a confirmed sighting.
