Farnborough Air Show 2012

Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:54 pm

http://www.farnborough.com/aircraft/public-static-display-aircraft

Is it just me, or are there not many civil airliners at all this year? I know it's still a month away, but with the E190 and ERJ135 being there Monday - Thursday... there seems to be a lack of Boeing/Airbus/Embraer/Canadair/ATR and even Sukhoi jets this year! Does anyone know if the QR 787 is going to Farnborough? As I missed the one in Manchester

Cheers!

Yes, I am a little bit disappointed, it may be the time I don't go.

The QR 787 is meant to be there so I believe - anyone know if it is just the trade days or also the public days?

RUAG have their Do-228NG performing, but again I think this is just during the trade days. Looking forwards to seeing it mind.

IIRC weren't they planning to attend and demonstrate with the SSJ again? If so then it's quite understandable why plans have now changed.

Well I've got my tickets, even if there aren't any civil airliners on the public days; I've still got a BD/BA flight back to Manchester on the night and then the trade day on the Sunday at the Manchester viewing park!

The A380 demonstrator is usually at the Farnborough show isn't it?

Are there many orders announced at Farnborough? If so, what can we expect to see?

I would not be surprised to see many hundreds of 737 MAX commitments firmed.

Farnborough better push it because I'm not taking that long a trip to see some Dornier or common fighter jets flying around. The trade days don't look promising at all, neither on the civil nor the military side.

These shows used to be more than just useless chatting and wandering, while most of the business happens in meeting rooms of chic hotels. We used to see executives of big corporations address a speech or cut ribons.
Prototypes used to be unveiled and orders firmed while the world was watching.
You saw history happen.

We used to be able to approach any aircraft and to have sales persons push their aircraft, even though we couldn't afford it. Now the sales persons are waiting in some dark room in a chalet and unless you have mega credentials, good luck meeting him.

Most salesmen nowadays learn their things by heart and will be able to tell you all the names of the suppliers of the components but won't be able to explain why they made certain decisions in the design of the aircraft or what makes it better than the competitors aircraft.
I applaud the Air Tractor technical salesperson who was at Le Bourget last year. Oh boy, it was nice to talk to someone who actually knew the aircraft they were selling from having flown it himself and actually wan't ashamed to talk about the good and less good things of its design.

- 737 MAX firms
- A320neo orders/firms
- 747-8 orders/firms (please god)
- A350 orders
- A380 order top ups?
- Maybe a A330 order
- 787 firms

Will N787BX be there? That would be smart for Boeing, I know airbus is trying to push more A350/A380 orders.

All years, even at the Paris air show of 2005.

I am really really hoping that it is a case where Airbus will send the A380, A330 - RAF Tanker (Voyager).

.... and Boeing need to bring the 747-8 Both F and I variants .... there is a high chance the 787 will be at the party.

It seems to me that there is an issue (maybe space? disruption to flight testing?) holding up A & B confirming which aircraft to display.

As much as I love Military aircraft & Space Technology .... seeing the Civil beasts is at the core of a Farnborough airshow, just won't be the same without them.

Airshows have evolved/devolved (depending on the way you look at it) ... unfortunately, In my opinion - one of the side-effects of the digital age is companies focus more on the impressiveness of their delivery of an idea rather than focusing on the substance. I know this is a side note ... but it is interesting; I work in an Aeronautical laboratory, where there is a huge push to 'digitize' everything ..... you know .... big shiny lab with lots of fancy displays .... anyway the process has turned into a circus now. Modern Technology is great, but nothing will ever beat using simple methods that directly measure something. My feeling is that this philosophy also applied to marketing, management ...

Anyway back to topic ... are there any people here who are planning to go during the 'corporate' days? i.e. Monday - Thursday?

Thanks,

Amen to that. Smaller the company, better the quality of pitch and knowledge I find - with a few notable exceptions.

Maybe it will be like Le Bourget 2011 but the other way round with Boeing announcing hundreds of MAX orders.

I was actually a little bit suprised that Airbus already announced the NEO firm orders for Norwegian and ALC so "shortly" before Farnborough.

That busted the myth about Airbus saving orders for shows.
Btw, how many MoUs for A320Neo are left to be firmed up?

For a myth, it has a good bit of empirical evidence.

Seriously, it's not like Airbus twists the arms of their customers to force them to announce at the major air show. So that Airbus historically has huge announcements at air shows is as much driven by the customers as Airbus.

230 per http://www.pdxlight.com/neomax.htm

Eh, if I read that list correctly it is only 130, as the other 100 are from Norwegian and thus firmed already...

Moreover, these 130 are AA's and will most likely not be firmed in the near future becasue of the Ch 11 issue.

Can we maybe hope that the 9W A320neo rumor will become true at Farnborough?

I think we might expect to see the AFKL A350 order firmed up and maybe the announcement of an engine for the AFKL 787s.

According to this article : lots of MAX's will be ordered in addition to a few more 747s and fingers crossed but it says a new 747-8i customer will be announced.

Interesting (and a little disappointing) comments about the 787-10 and the 777X. Sounds like both, especially the 777X are farther away from launch than I'd hoped. As for a new 748i order, plenty of speculation in a recent thread.

Could be similar but to a lesser extent. I can't imagine anything ever topping the slew of NEO orders at Paris last year. That was nuts (in a good way).

I think there will be at least one A380 order announced and some A350's. Boeing and their customers will likely make known a few of the UFO order holders. Not sure about any truly new 787 orders, until production gets up to speed and customers get a real idea of when they could expect deliveries, I think orders will be slow in coming.

Hurrah! Seemingly there's a new addition onto the passenger a/c side on the Fri-Sun public days!

A BAE Jetstream 31. Tiny, but it's a start.
However, if nothing else the Omega Air KDC10 could steal the show!
