Some Interesting "News" Out Of Delta In Atlanta...

Sat Oct 14, 2000 12:42 pm

It appears the news that Business Week has been reporting about a possible buyout of DL is almost a reality. Theres been talk of once again......you guessed it.....a new color scheme. The investors are still unknown at this time, but it is said they know what they are doing and have plenty of money to do it.

Heres Some of the Things that Might Change:

-Mr. Mullin and his crew would stay onboard and be the helm of the newly privatized airline.

-Once again, we would be introduced to a new color scheme and commercial line-up. This would be much more professional and business oriented, consisting of darker, more conservative colors.

-The MD-11s would be immediately disposed of, faster than currently planned, but allowing enough time for new 777s to come online.

-BusinessElite would remain, but a new first class would be created, system wide.

-The new fleet is still up in the air. Boeing will remain as the chief and only supplier, it is still unknow the future of the 777 or 747.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was all discussed with an MD-11 flight crew in route to Tokyo.

I can imagine all those changes happening, but without a buyout.

woah, yet another? i can't see this happening... do you know how much it costs to paint planes? I know this type of money (100k) is probably pocket change to them, but it adds up! I really hope delta doesn't change their paint job yet AGAIN!!!

I read the article in Business Week magazine about the potential buyout and it sounded like a reporter made a story out of absolutely nothing.

Check it out!

For the sake of potentially having to see the newest one for the next few years, I wouldn't really mind that much!

I knew it...

I predicted that once USAirways was bought out, the rest would follow...

When I first read it, I thought the reporter was having a field day with some stupid idea that a person had. Well, after talking to the pilots and a few people in ATL, I'm starting to wonder if this might have some truth behind it.

USAirways is merging with a competing airline. Delta would be bought out by private investors. Two completely different things.

Anything to get rid of the "new new" Marc Chegal livery. What did they do, pay Farah Fawcett to paint the tail of the plain as in her "notorious video"???

Good riddence to the MD-11; everyone else seems to be doing that.

Marc Chagall? What? I doubt an artist like him would have he would have painted anything as ghastly as the new DL scheme.

Any Confirmation?

Sun Oct 15, 2000 1:55 am

Hello,

There's nothing about it in the European issue. Any place where we could get a confirmation about this please?

Thank you,

Best regards,

NEW YORK, Oct 5 (Reuters) - Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE:DAL - news), the No. 3 U.S. airline, could receive a $7.5 billion buyout bid from a major buyout group and two ex-airline executives, Business Week magazine said, citing unnamed industry sources.

In a story for the magazine's ``Inside Wall Street'' column, the sources were cited as saying that the buyout group has been negotiating with ``a couple of banks'' for financing.

The buyout group and the ex-airline executives were not named.

``All I can tell you is it's a speculative story and we can't comment on rumours,'' said Russ Williams, a spokesman for Atlanta-based Delta.

Delta shares closed at $45-5/16, down 7/16, in trading Thursday. They have fallen from as high as $71-9/16 in April of last year, as airlines faced a lengthy run-up in fuel prices.

The $7.5 billion bid would amount to $61 a share, Business Week said.

Maybe the ex-airline executives are Frank Lorenzo and Carl Icahn........

Well if they do buy it, let's hope they don't ruin it like Daimler-Benz did to Chrysler!! Chrysler has lost some excellent people as a result fo the merger. I think it hurts the morale of the employees even if there are good relations.
