Island Air going ATR is not new. They signed 6 leases back in February.

They also got a Saab 340 on short term lease as well’

I'm not too excited about their rebranding. I think the current one is fine.

For some reason that Lei doesn't work for me painted as it is. I think it would have been awesome to paint the Lei around the circumference of the fuselage as if the plane was actually wearing one.

Not a fan of the updated livery. Current one is better and uniquely hawaiian.

I think the new livery/brand is a nice improvement from the current one. Although I like the lei logo and font of the name, I dont like how they applied the lei on the aircraft, especially on the tail.

I was just going to post the same remark with regard to the lei.

Back half of the livery is not so bad. I think the front half and the cowling covers just don't work. I get a very Caribbean/pastel feel to this livery which doesn't quite feel like it belongs. I surprisingly like the font used, even if it has an Air Jamaica feel to it (maybe colors could have something to do with it). Make the cowlings a darker shade of blue than the tail (similar to the bottom hue on the tail), and do something with the lei on the front. Perhaps they didn't want it to be too plain on the front fuselage, but this rendering just doesn't work and from the remarks thus far I know I'm not alone. I hope they didn't pay too much for it...

Okay, new tract, but still related to the topic... In the previous thread (mentioned in post 2) regarding Lahaina and WP. the Dash-8's they use are able to operate out of JHM, though with only a 3000ft runway (914m) just barely within specs. Would the ATR-42 likely take a payload hit to get out of there should it remain in the route structure for WP? Would the destination be dropped? Or could there be something else in store for WP and JHM???

just thinking out loud here, but wouldn't mind additional thoughts

If HA plans on getting turboprop aircraft, I think AS should try to make some codeshare arrangement with WP.

AS at one time code-shared with goMokulele but they seem to be going through a bit of an identity crisis. AS isn't too worried about needing inter-island connections when they serve so many Hawaii destinations non-stop from the west coast.

Other than MKK & LNY, AS has it covered already, WP doesn't serve Hilo either. If AS wanted to get into the Inter Island game I'd think they would bring their own planes from QX and go flying, but I really doubt that will happen.

The ATR seems like a good choice for Island Air. On short distances the economics make sense, whereas the speedier Q400 seems to win out on longer distances.

Does anyone have any pics of the interior of these kind of planes?

Atleast they used some different colours on the plane, Bright and loud indeed but refreshing change from all these white planes with blue titles and nothing else.

I usually fly Island Air to JHM from HNL, the low en-route altitude and slower air speed make it always more interesting than the quick HA flight to OGG and saves hours if you are headed to Kaanapali, Lahina or Kapalua. With the very short stage lengths involved with interisland flying I imagine that even a full pax and bag payload would not at all stress the preformance of the ATRs since they dont have to carry anything close to a max fuel load. Of course I suppose that they would be carrying roundtrip fuel loads from HNL to avoid buying more expensive JET-A on the neighbor islands. ITO and KOA to HNL are the longest interisland routes and they are barely longer than 270 miles, only around 20% of the range of a 42 and less than 1/3 of the 72.
