UA 787 Dreamliner: Unveiling Event 7/31

Sun Jul 29, 2012 10:43 pm

I searched and didn't see anything posted about this.

Is this simply going to be showing off the new paint job, a whole interior tour, or something else?

Probably the whole enchelada! They've already Released a pic of the new livery that will be applied to it, so I guess the next step is to "officialy" unveil the colorscheme and unveil the interior.

(BTW, the new colorscheme does explain why all the pics of the UA 787s have no cheatline painted on them yet.)

Considering that UA's HQ is now in Chicago, wouldn't they fly it there?

On another note, any idea when the first revenue flight is?

I believe the pilots are all based out of IAH, as well as the maintenance will be based out of IAH as well. AFAIK all new 787s will be delivered to IAH.

I noted in the Q2 Fleet Update issued last week, that UA's 787 deliveries slipped again. Now, they will only get 4 units in 2012 and none until Q4. Previously it was 5 units with one in Q3.

It did not list whether or not the 2013 units will go to 7 788's or stay at 6 with one going into 2014.

I went to "the Hub" and I can't play the movie on my iphone. But from the pictures below, did UA change the BF seat for the 787? And I can see a couple of seats up front that look different from the others?

Also, doesn't another airline have the same BF seat?

And I doubt it was intentional, but the mood lighting in the still shot are the old UA colors!

The fleet update refers to in service aircraft....UA still expects to receive 5 aircraft this year but only 4 of them will be active in the fleet by the end of the year.

I think the DEN-NRT was the first 787 intl route announced, but that doesnt mean it will be the first intl route flown.

I am very excited for this and for the fact that the UA 787 is ready...which means it will be delivered soon. This will be a game changer for UA, at least in my opinion. They will be able to attract more int'l pax by flying to destinations that were too small for the 777. I have said this before, but I will say it again...the future of flight is upon us.

Well of all the dumb posts I've made this one tops the list: I was looking at Boeing pictures not UA 787 interiors.

Nonetheless I agree with everyone. This is an inflection point. Moving forward we will demand this level of technology meeting beauty. Bravo United and I hope when UA's hubs are covered with 787's, it will turn their reputation around.

Think you will seen the 787 visit all stations domestically that see the 767 and above. Particular routes and such while on proving runs have not been released but I am sure they will be once the aircraft is on the property at the latest. I would also expect the s-ua policy of long haul testing with some east coast-Hawaii runs as well as they did with the first 777's into service to test ETOPS. Stretch it legs so to speak!! https://hub.united.com/en-us/pages/default.aspx will be one place to view it starting at 0830 edt.

(hadn't seen any pix of the first 727-100 that is stored on the same field lately...been moved last few days...be nice it it was there at the unveiling!)

Nice to see the config from UA themselves.

Has this been posted before? Interesting to see they are mixing a zone of E+ and E (row 23-25). I assume they have done this to squeeze in these 3 rows as there otherwise would only have been room for 2 E+ resulting in waste of space.

Wow, Business seems roomy compared to the 777IPTE layout, however, when flying cattle I'd rather fly the 777 then this 787...

Wonder if UA is going to add "premium" 787's with F, C and 8 across Y+ and Y...

Anyway, the bird looks nice, it's a step up from the old CO livery so that's a nice thing.

Any guess either educated or uneducated as to the delivery date? My completely uneducated guess is IAH arrival Friday, September 21, 2012. Why, because I won't be in town to see it arrive!!!

Oh, there's nothing 'wrong' with it. I didn't say there was. But it seems rather 'pedestrian' for such a momentous launch (the first U.S. flag carrier 787). That's all.

A320 - N4xxUA
744 - N1xxUA
752 - N5xxUA
763 - N6xxUA
772 - N2xxUA and N7xxUA
