Doesn't KL have any better a/c to start this route with than a F70? Not really their best foot forward in a new market. Just sayin'

What's wrong with the F70? Of course, it's not a 787, but IMO it's quite okay for a regional jet. Besides that, anything larger is way to big for a small destination like AES. Besides that, for the high-paying business class passengers, they guarantee an empty seat next to your seat, making it quite comfortable. And KL offers complimentary drink and snack in all classes.

Besides equipment type, the main selling point for KLM is that they can offer one-stop routings to many (mostly intercontinental) destinations that require 2 stops on SK, the only other allianced network carrier serving the airport. A routing like AES-LAX or AES-JNB would require AES-OSL-EWR-LAX or AES-OSL-FRA-JNB, whereas KLM can offer AES-AMS-LAX or AES-AMS-JNB.

The extra comfort of one less airport wait outweighs any equipment type difference by far.

Be happy with the new service instead of such a strange comment. No, KL have no better a/c for this route. F70 is maybe even too big. Time will tell.

Great to see that KL is adding another destination. I'm only puzzled by the flight timing, particularly the KL1325 outbound. Clearly based on the AES flight timings its oriented at pax originating there.

If I were to fly LAX - AMS - AES like suggested above I would arrive in Amsterdam at 8:55 AM . That would leave me with a close to 6 hour layover at AMS. Not ideal at all I would say.

The timings are perfect for European connections. Moreover, how many alternatives does a long haul lax travelling from AES has if we/she only wants to transfer once?

It's the smallest aircraft they have. The next one if the ER9 (30 seats larger), but that's probably too big for 13 weekly to AES.

You are incorrect. On four days of the week the connection time is just 1hr 35m.

KLM operates AMS-LAX-AMS 11x/week in Summer 2013, the 2nd KLM flight KL604 LAX-AMS gives you a 1hr 35min. connection at AMS to AES.

- dep. LAX 17:15 - arr. AMS 12:50 KL0604 0 stop 10h 35min. Sat, Sun, Tue, Thu
- dep. AMS 14:25 - arr. AES 16:30 KL1325 0 stop 2h 05min. daily ex. Sat F70

Disagree. KL's Fokker 70s are among my favorite aircraft. They look like new and have the most comfortable seats of any Y class seats on any KL aircraft, shorthaul or longhaul. In contrast, the seats on KL's Embraer 190s are very uncomfortable and I avoid them for that reason although I normally like the Embraers due to the 2-2 configuration but not with the KL seats.

Spot on! We share the same opinion. I like Emb 170/190, but after flown on many airlines so far, I totally dislike KLM's E90 product (uncomfortable seats that is).

It seems increasingly likely that they will soon be launching Manston in the UK as well. KLM certainly know how to make secondary destinations work.

They certainly serve Norway well with 26 daily flights from 7 airports around the country to Amsterdam!
