Half Of AAs 763s Gone In A Few Years?
It says that on Wikipedia that half of the said fleet will be gone in a few years. What will replace all this capacity? I hope they get some new A330s and 767s quick because the 789 is frankly too large and will arrive too late.

Why would you replace an old 763 with an identical airplane? The 788 has a much lower operating cost.
And AA has no A330s on order, so as of today right now, that's not going to happen at all.

A330 is not an identical airplane.

I've read somewhere that AA has arrangement with Boeing which allows them to give only around 18 months before first delivery to firm the order for the 787-9. I'm sure this order will be confirmed as soon as they are out of the bankruptcy protection.

In which Wikipedia article is this statement made, and what is the exact wording of the statement? I checked the Wikipedia entries on both American Airlines and the Boeing 767 but I couldn't find any specific reference to AA decreasing their 763 fleet in any particular time frame.
Able to kill active threads stone dead with a single post!

The 789 is the size of an A330-200, so what A330 are you recommending?

That's a huge gap between the 738 and 789!

Perhaps I was referring to the OP's suggestion that American replace 767s with new 767s?

If AA and US merge, yes. All the A330s that would be phased in would be ex-US A330s.

2016 at the latest, the 762s will have left the fleet. The 763s will be gone in the middle of the 20s. By then the 772 retirement will have begun.

The 738s also replaced the 727s.

By then, Boeing will probably be producing new versions of the 777 like a "777NG" or "777 MAX" or whatever it will be called. So it won't be an exact replacement. It would like an airline replacing their 737-400s with 737-8 MAXs.

They do have 772's still on the order books but I think we all know that those won't be delivered as 772s - probably converted to 77Ws or otherwise converted.
On the subject of the AA 763s, its true that half are slated to be retired in the near term. However, the rest of them are still relatively young - e.g. the youngest 763 was delivered in 2003. Given that AA has announced the remaining half will get a new business class product in the next 2 years - that part of the fleet could march on for ten more years or more.

I think in the most recent filing with the court during bankruptcy proceedings it was noted that the remaining 5 772 orders have formally been swapped to 77Ws. I read that in the bankruptcy thread, I believe. However, the order page at Boeing.com still reflects those five aircraft as 772s. So who knows.

No, but the original post read as follows. I'm sure the reply was referring to the 767 reference, not the A330.

The 789 at 206 ft long is near the same size as the A330-300 (210 ft) and 777-200 (209ft), the 788 at (186 ft) is near the same size as the A330-200 at (193ft) in length.

Actually, AA has already announced that all 772s will be refitted to a much higher density configuration, with a new business class product replacing the current offering of F/J.
As to where they are deployed, I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
