And the topic of discussion ... Southwest won't charge for bag fees in 2013 ... but "never say never."

Let the speculation begin.

I guess WN is somehow making up their numbers... according to a post on here yesterday. The poster said there was just no way WN could legitimately be making money when the Legacies are not.

To whoever that poster was.... WN makes money fair and square.

It's always possible to cook the books, any name company, any where, any time.

Just ask Jack Welch.

While that is true... WN is making money. There is no denying that.

Kool........

Congrats to WN for their consideration to all stakeholders in their enterprise, and showing that there is good $$$$ to be made at providing a service to the public. Credit to all for this.

One could wonder though how much $$$$ is being left on the table due mostly to the code-share difficulties and the slow pace with the merger?

And ...... can we now say that WN isn't still spending an arm and a leg at DEN......?

While I agree that a lot of money is being left on the table on the pax side and freight side, at least on the pax side there is a soft launch of network connectivity coming soon (i.e days away). . .Now lets just hope this isnt followed by a major computer failure lol.

Something from the conference call, they expect ATL to stay at about the same amount of flights they have now, within 10-12 flights. Of course things can change but anyone saying otherwise, you have just been told wrong by the executives.

And once they finally pull the plug and start charging bag fees there will be a whole lot less money left on the table.

I can only see them doing bag fees if they decide to offer a 4th tier of air fares and completely unbundle the bags. So we could see something like "SimpleSaver" fares added to Biz Sel, Anytime, and WGA where it would be - for arguments sake - $25 to $30 cheaper than WGA. Which doesn't seem like much of a break unless you charge $20-25 per bag.

I think he has to acknowledge the possibility of it happening, but there is nothing set in stone from his comments. The existing systems can charge for it now if they wanted, but there isn't. I'm completely indifferent to the offering of free bags, but I think it is a nice perk and the best way to keep the customer base happy is to give them a choice.
