TAM Moving To Terminal 8 At JFK

Wed Feb 27, 2013 9:19 pm

Just announced on the TAM Facebook page:

"We’re moving to terminal 8 at JFK Airport starting April 1, 2013. Our convenient new location offers easy baggage check-in and drop-off at the counter, reduced connecting time, and a VIP lounge located within the gate area. Boa viagem!"

https://www.facebook.com/TAMAirlines?ref=stream

Looks like the move to oneworld may now be (officially) imminent.

American better finish their terminal. It has been a mad-house at certain times!

We are starting to see a migration out of T4 and into partner terminals as the upcoming Delta opening grows near.

We can now see the plan that was put in place a few years ago

Perhaps when AA and US merged VX could take over the gate(s) US has been utilizing at T-7.

They have 12 to 14 daily flights US-GRU and both will use 77W between GRU and JFK.

What is so good about that high market share except for the profits of both companies? For the customer such a high concentration (12 of 14 flights on OneWorld) will result in higher prices.

I don't see that happening, terminal 7 is already over capacity at certain times of the day.

The #1 driver of the Terminal 4 exodus is the reduction of shared gates at the terminal. In order for DL to take half of the building some airlines have to go elsewhere. There are few places that have room.

VX just recently moved over to T4 Concourse A (with VS) so they're already out of Delta-s way, so-to-speak...]

Which other airline moves will happen at JFK? Is there a list somewhere?

Delta has two flights to GRU from ATL and JFK daily. United flies nonstop from 4 cities daily, Houson, Dulles, Newark and Chicago. That is 6 daily 767 or 777 to GRU by non- OW airlines. How is that 12 of 14 ? Sure AA & TAM own Miami, DFW and JFK.

What does American need to do to complete Terminal 8? I was hoping you're referring to expanding the terminal into the open area where the last remnants of the old terminal once stood. Is there a rendering somewhere of a "completed" AA Terminal 8 at JFK?

While only temporary, BA's 116 to LHR will move to T8 for much of March while some jetbridge work is completed at T7. That ought to get people talking when they see a BA 777 sitting at T8!

Quoting Navion (Reply 15):

Concourse B of T8 (gates 1-16), and the main terminal building are only about 2/3 complete based on the original design. AA has said they're in talks with PANYNJ and BA about finishing the terminal and moving all OW carriers to T8. Of course these talks have been ongoing for sometime, and nothing public has been said about any decisions or agreements, and alas, no work has begun. It is my guess though that as the AA/US merger progresses, and the company emerges from bankruptcy, this project will kick into high gear.

Agree with what others have said: this is yet another sign (as if we needed anymore) that TAM in oneworld seems to be merely a matter of when, not if. What a boost that will be for the alliance in general, and for AA in particular.

Agreed - T8 is finally starting to get used more intensively, as it was originally designed.

I hope it kicks into high gear. It will be great to eventually see T8 fully built out - it's such a great terminal. And consolidating BA into T8 is going to dramatically improve the connectivity experience for the two carriers' joint customers on the JBA's busiest single route.

Here you have:

The two RJ concourses were dropped in the final project, so what it is left to be built is only the right part of the main terminal building and concourse.

Why doent American handle these carriers at Terminal 8. Surely they are missing out on additional revenue.

The wall currently occupied by the Cityscape is a temporary wall. Half of the check-in area missing, as well as approx. 10 gates in the first councouse. (where gates 14 and 16 are).

I remember seeing that model a couple times in the former terminal, I would note that even though it's hard to see in that photo that some of the model planes at the model T-8 are BA, IB planes etc..

The RJ courses will never be built. They moved those out to the midefield. However, 8 gate widebody concourse will likely be finished at some point

The combining of AA and US have done that anyway. You think that maybe it is the airlines that are not part of an alliance are going to have any real market power anymore? Yes there are airlines like B6 and WN that of course can have some control but B6 has had a marketing agreement with AA which would give some influence on schedules and pricing due to market forces. WN is large in the lower priced end of the market and drives the prices in the markets they serve. I don't use them as they do not serve my local airport or fly to where I need to go. The masses like not paying for anything and that is apparent with the success of both WN and FR in their respective markets.

In Canada WS is trying to attract business flying through their current ad campaign and not through pricing but through their better service than its main competitor AC. I have flown both and WS is definatly a nicer airline but you have to pay for it of course and so we have the high prices that lack of real competition and government intervention in the industr
