The mood lighting isn't necessary but it looks good and looks are important to Virgin Atlantic!

I doubt that the mood lightings would have any use on a 0.5-1hr flight....

Nevertheless, VS PLEASE put the Union Jack back on your winglets!!! The red winglet looks ugly!!!

To be honest I think GLA-LHR traffic is more compared to EDI-LHR. I would begin GLA-LHR before EDI-LHR. Commercial point of view GLA offer more than EDI.

EDI provides more traffic to LHR that GLA but also has more competition.

Spend some time at GLA and outside the commuter times it's mostly leisure pax (and not many) outside the EK rush about lunchtime. In comparison, EDI has a churn of business pax all day long (and a much nicer terminal too!).

Quoting TheAviator380 (Reply 45):
In future IF Virgin trains offers cheap tickets, will be interesting to see how MAN-LHR does as ideally this MAN-LHR flight is ideal only for those who stays near MAN.

If you were O&D then fair enough, but IIRC Virgin are trying to get traffic from Little Red onto their long haul network. Good luck to them, will be nice to see VS at EDI.

It's hardly a fantastic livery when they use bog standard paint rather than Virgin's standard metallic gloss. Another clue? Can't believe they called it "Tartan Lassie"! Straight off a shortbread tin for God's sake. What's the other names?

I believe the paint job is metallic - I just don't think it shows very well on the pictures. I think the names are very true to the new routes !

The names are:

EI-EZW MAGGIE MAY
EI-DEO QUEEN OF THE COBBLES
EI-EZV TARTAN LASSIE

Quoting pilotanthony (Reply 20):
WHY IS IT NOT IN THE METALLIC LIVERY???!?! why is virgin so confused, they have like 5 different liveries at the same time....

I believe the paint job is metallic - I just don't think it shows very well on the pictures. There are currently the following liveries:

Billboard (2 A330's, these will be re-painted soon into Metallic)
Billboard Metallic (current livery)
Red Wrapped (being phased out)
Silver Dream Machine (being phased out)
Special 'Birthday Girl' (Special Livery - being kept)

As VS phase out the older A340's, the new aircraft will be painted in the New Metallic Billboard Livery.. All the LGW 744 fleet are now in the new livery and the first 2 A330's that were delivered will be painted in metallic when they have their LHR re-config. Any aircraft that are staying with the VS fleet for the near future will gradually be painted in the new billboard metallic livery.

The two in Singapore remain there at the moment and are expected to travel next week.
The first flights will be with one of the Are Lingus own fleet aircraft with the positioning flight Dublin- Manchester tomorrow afternoon

30MAR13 VS982 DUB-MAN 1230-1330 with aircraft EI-DEO.

Manchester only needs one aircraft for the schedule

Edinburgh will require two (Suspect these are the two currently in Singapore) from next Friday and Aberdeen a further one (This will spend much of the day parked at LHR !) the following Monday.

Your question on delivery route well its almost certainly a splash and dash in the UAE and a further rest in somewhere like
Sofia/Athens and thence onto Blighty.

No, the paint job is not metallic. The fuselage has a plain white coating and the engines/tail are a high solid red.

While I agree that sometimes metallic doesn't show up too well in pics.....

....I think this shot will quell any misconceptions of it being metallic:

Now perhaps the white rather than metallic is deliberate to differentiate S/H from L/H?

From the same photographer, here's a shot of the last A320 to have the VS livery....from 1998:

I believe it is a warm bacon roll on flights before 9am and then crisps or cookie for flights after that. All drinks complimentary.

The metallic paint only comes from Air Livery in Manchester. From anyone else (like airbus) it always starts as non-metallic.

A million a week is incredibly excessive and likely not true, but of course VS is paying Aer Lingus something as they are wet leasing the planes. But you are looking at hundreds of thousands of dollars per month per aircraft for that. So while they are likely shelling out well over a million a month total I find it hard to believe it is 4 million +.

Unless Virgin enjoys being screwed.

The lease terms are likely Aircraft Flight crew maintenance and insurance.

Further two are a sub lease so its lease costs plus profit !

Equates to £51.00 per seat per sector - Definitely on the high side and almost certainly a media guesstimate.

The catering on my sector was a cookie or crisps/chips with a drink. And it was a generously sized hot drink I hasten to add!

And how many airlines launch new services that are full from the 1st day?

LHR-MAN is the soft launch, with EDI being the official launch that will have all the hoop rah from SRB etc.

Lets see how it performs in 6 months and then pass some more judgement.

After all the effort to get these flights?
